Unfortunately it was only Majorca not Florida :(.

Still had a pretty good trip and it was nice to show Jana a little more of Europe. Had a right result on the accommodation ( it was a allocate on arrival) got a really nice hotel in Alcudia and even better result we were given a two bedroom suite ( so Jana had her own dressing room). These were on the corner of the building so the balcony was MASSIVE, going round the two sides. Not much to report, we lazed around in the sun, had a couple of day trips ( one to a market so Jana could haggle with the natives, didn't happen  LOL) best trip though was to the Caves of Drach (Dragon Caves) which houses Europes largest underwater lake, we wandered through the 500 meters or so of stalegmites and tites then were treated to a classical music and lights show in the caves. This was REALLY well done with the musicians coming down on rowboats with lights (like the electromagic parade) while everything else was pitchblack. Was quite a moving experience ( although not as moving as the 179 step climb back out of the caves LOL). We also had a stop at one of the major pearl factories on Majorca, which by coincidence was where Jana's ex bought a necklace for her to commemorate her son's birth 8 years ago. We only missed the exact day by 2 days as Gus's birthday was the Friday and we visited on the Wednesday, ALL TOGETHER NOW ( you know the music :) ) it's a small world after all.............. .

Jana managed to win us a week's accommodation in a timeshare presentation :) , but unfortunately it has to be taken in Europe :( , might use it to go to Italy next year if Jana comes here again for the summer :) :) . Don't think the sales person was too happy with my fairly in depth knowledge of how a points based timeshare system works. She was even less happy when I told her that I owned on DVC ( they were selling GVC, which is owned by Sunterra) so I didn't need any extra vacation coverage. Nothing against their product, I'm sure it offers something valuable to people looking for thet type of accommodation, but IMHO it's not as good as DVC is for my own needs.

I think Jana found the work ethic in the service industries a little difficult to come to terms with, it ain't the US of A honey :) ROFLMAO

Vernon and Jana

Glad you both had a great trip and you were dead jammy on the allocate on arrival - I am impressed and Jana mentioned on another thread that you booked from the Travel Channel - even more impressive.

I bet, V, you gave the timeshare people a right run for their money - LOL - I would have liked to have been a fly on the wall for that one. It would be great if you do get to go to Italy next year. I was looking at the Amalfi coast for this year but we ended up booking Cyprus which I'm just as pleased about.

Nice to be back?.........at least the sun is shining :sunny:

Glad to hear you had a good time, we go to Alcudia in October and I am a bit dubious as we have booked one of these all inclusive packages, I expect it will be a bit like Butlins. It'll be a wee change though. We want to go to the caves too as DM + DD went there 40 years ago and want to go back.

:D Glad to hear your trip was enjoyable. We loved Majorca when we went a few years ago, unfortunately our accommodation in Alcudia in no way compared to yours and after MANY arguments with Airtours reps finally got moved to a "proper" 4 star establishment.

Did you do the little island boat trip to Formentore island? Lovely, one of those boats that has glass sides below so you feel like you're in a washing machine when it goes fast;)

Lucky you, Jana, being given guided tours of parts of Europe:D - how are you enjoying it?

Glad to hear you both had a good holiday Vernon.

I visited the Caves of Drach years ago whilst on a girlie holiday (you know the sort!), and was amazed by them.

Isn't it a great feeling when you end up knowing more about things than the person trying to sell them to you!! :)

Astrid

Astrid you're SO RIGHT ;) LOL.

UJpdate on the timeshare "win" it's taken me 3 days of calling the "winning line" and haven't been able to get through to GVC , I'm very tempted to get onto watchdog to see if this is a scam they run, claim you win a holiday if you ring a number that is impossible to get through to. So do be warned if you get an offer from http://www.gvc.co.uk it may look a nice snazzy website and have some nice looking hotels but if my experience is anything to do by it's offerings don't seem to be as plain and simple as they like to make out. Certainly if I was thinking of joining them and buying into their timeshare system , I wouldn't touch 'em with a barge pole now.

Glad you both had a good time. We like Majorca and have done those things you mention. Caves of Drach was beautiful. Still prefer Florida but wouldn't turn my nose up at Majorca. Well done on the timeshare thing! ;)
