Three close friends and myself, just returned from 3 great days of golf at WDW. We stayed in a 2 Bedroom at OKW and we all were very pleased with the accommodations. Even though I am a DVC member, nothing could have prepared me for the size of the OKW 2 bedroom, just great!

Ladies, don’t pay attention to the rest of this report, gentlemen please read closely. This trip with just the guys was great. We played golf each day, went sit out on the beach at dusk and drank margaritas and Crown Royal. No kids to worry about, no women to drag you through each Disney shop, and the best, it never took us any longer than 15 minutes to all shower and get ready to go! We were honorable, every evening we called and reported to our wives and significant others, that this trip was good, but would be better if they were here.

We played Osprey Ridge, Eagle Pines and Lake Buena Vista; all were in pretty good shape, considering the unseasonable early summer. It would be nice if Disney would make use of GPS systems but other than that, the service was great. Ate on evening at the Flying Fish Café, the steak was great.

The most ironic thing of the whole trip was meeting a special CM who sat us. Two days before the trip, one of the guy’s daughter had a baby and he and his wife had to drive from New Orleans to Atlanta, and he was in need of tickets from Atlanta to Orlando in a hurry to make the trip. I called MS and told the CM the story she found tickets that matched the trip agenda and all was well. When we walked into the Fly Fish, she asked about my last name and said she knew who I was, then she explained that she had booked the ticket for us and remembered that my friend’s daughter had just had a baby. She congratulated him, and we had great service the rest of the evening as she gave us the inside scoop on each item of the menu.

All in all, it was one of the best trips to WDW, though I have a PAP, we didn’t step one foot into the parks, instead just enjoying everything else that WDW has to offer. Try it sometime.

One more thing as a true friend I didn’t charge any of them a single dollar for the accommodations, which cost me 54pts.

;) But, I hope they bought you a margarita or two. ;)

Thanks for the great trip report and a reminder that a WDW trip doesn't have to always be about kids and/or family. I think OKW especially lends itself to these golf getaway trips.

Great report! Thanks for posting. You lived my dream, a guys only golf vacation at WDW.

Thanks so much for the report. DH and I are going for a week in June, and his idea of vacation is to golf all the time. He's also playing those same 3 courses that week. Just wondering-what was your favorite? Most challenging? Did you have a golf course view at OKW? Were you right on LBV, and did you remember golfing there when you were sitting on the balcony? What building were you in? Sorry for so many questions, but the only way I can get DH to Disney is to reassure him that he'll play lots of good golf.

Just wondering if you took advantage of the 30% golf discount as an AP holder and if so, what was the final cost of each round after the discount?

Donna and Simba's Mom,

I didn't use the AP Discount, I bought the DVC Golf Option in Feb of this year, I played 3 rounds of golf before this trip. Its well worth the $85.

I was in room 5423, though the course was just outside, all the trees blocked our view, but it didn't bother us. We had enough bad shots to look at without looking at others.

I like the challenge of Osprey Ridge, however, I really enjoyed all three course. Osprey and Eagle Pines or located at the Bonnet Creek Club House, which I feel is set up a little more convenient, then LBV, however, the service was great at all. As far as the view, I think Osprey wins out by a hair. The one thing to know about Osprey is that its very long and I'm usually very exhausted after playing.

Simba's Mom, tell DH, that there is plenty of golf to keep him busy and content. I have played with friends and strangers and everyone I have met is very pleasant.

Wow, that is still a pretty good rate. Was that $85 for the option to golf within a certain time period? i forget the dates, but i remember reading about it. They must be having a hard time filling tee-times because 30% discount for a/p holders is about the same rate i can get my husband as a CM.
simba's mom, tell your husband that disney and golf are synonymous! Back when we bought OKW, once my husband saw the golf view from the porch, he was sold on DVC. Everytime we go, we request golf view and usually get it (kind of hard NOT to since it's built in and around LBV). In fact, we both think of OKW as a golf community resort! Usually, i ride around with him til we hit the hospitality house and i'll hop off the cart there and go swimming or grab a bite at Good's. My husband is in two golf league's but he never minds missing his league games when we're going to wdw! I'm sure he'll love it!

Sounds like a great golf trip!

GREAT report Mr. Bayou! We are taking a more traditional family trip in 16 days. We will be there two weeks, and are travelling with friends as well, so I'm going to be able to squeeze two rounds in (Magnolia and Osprey) with some buddies.

Donna- A little clarification on the DVC Golf membership. I believe the $85 is the cost of joining. In return, you get to play at discounted rates of approx. $40. I'm sure somebody else can provide the exact details.

One tip that's not on the Disney website is that greens fees sometimes drop after 10am. We are playing May 28th and June 4th and our fees with no other discounts are $45 and $60.

Of course, that doesn't work if you want to tee off earlier, but then you can use the other discounts, such as the above mentioned DVC membership, AP discount, or Emerald Club discount.

The DVC Annual Golf Membership is $85 for one year. Your rates are as follows:
Jan-Apr $95 per round
Apr-Oct $35 per round
Oct-Dec $55 per round

Thats pretty close as far as the dates, check with Disney for details. You must tee off after 10AM, since I'm playing several times this year and mostly with friends, it was worth the price of the membership.

OH! in that case, the CM rate of $25 per round IS a better deal but at least they give some break to DVC members and a/p holders. thanks!

BTW, I'm pretty sure that $35 rate is for the card-holder and up to 3 guests. Donna, how much extra does it cost for you to ride along with DH? That sounds like it might be kind of fun. I'm getting psyched now. You people have made me think I might have finally found the vacation to please both DH and myself.

Thanks for the info. We are at OKW for ten nights in August. Our longest trip yet! And DW is letting me play golf! Can't wait. Can you walk from the condos to LBV clubhouse? Is there a golf cart shuttle?

Yes and No,

Since LBV course runs thru OKW, you can back trak to the club house. However, it may depend where you are located at OKW. I was in building 54, It would of been easy walk to the clubhouse. If you don't have a car, call the clubhouse and have them arrange a cab, they will even pay for the trip. The best thing about all the clubhouses, is the bag drop. Just drop your bags, and let them know what course you will be playing the next day and your clubs will be there.

I really enjoyed LBV, it was a nice relaxing course.

Made DH read your report since it was for "guys only" He LOL!!
And made him anxious for our upcoming trip!!

Simba's Mom: I've ridden several times with DH and it is only a minimum fee of $10/$15 and usually well worth it. Very relaxing and if you keep your eyes open you may see all sorts of wildlife from deer to rabbits. And like you, golf is the way I get DH to WDW each year. This year our trip includes the Nat'l Car Rental Classic.

lsutigger,

It was your report several months ago that got me interested in a golf only trip! Thanks to these boards, I feel like a DVC trip planning pro. Hope you have a great time in October.

Just Down The River....

Down on the Bayou,
Glad I could be an "inspiration" to someone! Only trouble is, you didn't take DH with you!!
Maybe next time. Actually, now he's thinking about a "guy only golf trip". You may have created a monster!! LOL!
