We just returned from a Sun-Friday stay at HH and really enjoyed it! Here are our comments:

LOCATION: We were a little concerned about not being on the beach but this really worked out fine! We felt that we got 2 vacations in one. We used the shuttle to the beach house and we never had to wait. Next time we will try and rent bikes. My DD(10) broke her arm a week before we left (scooter accident) and she has a waterproof cast. She could swim in the pools but no beach or bikes!

ROOM: We had a 2BR over looking the marsh area. It was 1823 and we loved it. We were half way between the pool and the bus stop. The view of the marsh was wonderful! We even saw dolphins from the balcony. There were a few things about the rooms that we liked better than at BW & BC. We liked the hallway to the bedrooms that had the bench and the laundry. Having the laundry in the hall is much nicer and easier to get to. We also liked the kitchen and table layout better. The table seems more out of the way in the corner. We also loved Shadow's paw prints.

ACTIVITIES: The kids (DD 10, DS 5, DS 5) loved all the fun activities. We did the campfire twice, the dolphin boat ride, all american bbq, shadow's tales, and my DD painted the butterfly house and went to the kids night out.

FOOD: The one thing we would have liked is a real restaurant. Even though we have a kitchen, when we are on vacation we prefer to eat out a lot. I know there are lots of restaurants on the island but we like staying close. We would have liked a Yacht Club Galley type place that maybe only served breakfast & dinner.

DVC Merchandise: Where is it? The store had very little DVC stuff. They have been out of the HH pins for over a month we were told. We talked to some of the CMs and they always get people complaining about the lack of DVC stuff! This is the perfect place to sell stuff because we noticed that almost everyone we saw had Disney stuff - antenna toppers, stickers, shirts, backpacks, bathing suits, shirts, hats! I have never seen so much Disney Stuff! I think Disney is missing out by not having more DVC stuff. Members will buy it!

Well that is it! If you have any questions, let me know.

TerriBelle, Thanks for the great review, we are going to HH for the first time in a few months, and really enjoy all the input from recent visitors we can get.

Thanks!

Thanks for your HH trip report. We have points there and enjoy the resort. Don't quite understand your negative comment about the lack of a restaurant. We enjoyed going across the bridge to Scott's and the other restaurants. Really not any further walk than from the BCV to Yacht Club Galley that you mentioned.

Thanks for the review. We are going in less than 2 wks and can't wait. We are also staying in a 2 bdrm, I hope ours has a similar view. Yours sounded great! I'll post a review after my trip and we can compare notes. Thanks again.

Building 18 is one of my (many) favorite buildings there! ;)

Glad you enjoyed the trip! Did you go to Tide Me Over for breakfast or lunch? I know it's not full-service, but they do have a pretty good selection (particularly for lunch) and the food is good!

KyBill,

We did go to Scott's for dinner one night and enjoyed it. I'm sure if we visited often we would find lots of great local restaurants. My only point was that for us, a restaurant at the resort would have been nice. It did not stop us from having a great time.

WIth a marsh view room (or any view there, I guess!) how bad are the mosquitos?

I used to vacation all the time as a child / youth at Fripp Island (off of Beaufort, SC) and later, at Kiawah (near Charelston, SC) and I recall that if you were near the ocean, mosquitos not too bad -- but heaven help you near the marsh!

And since it's a Disney resort...
are they mosquitos or mouse-quitos?

(Sorry -- couldn't resist!)

Glad to hear about the kid's activities... it all sounds so good! I am trying to get my crew (dh, self, and 3 kids) to agree to try HH. Hopefully we will for next Thanksgiving. Shouldn't be any mouse-quito problems then! So far, every time I mention a DVC trip, though, they immediately holler for WDW! :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce:

We love HH! We went for the first time in Nov, 2001 and had a great time.
We 'found' (thanks to a friend who is a local)a great place for breakfast or lunch. Harold's Diner is back along the main road past the Shelter Cove Mall on the opposite side of the street. It is small with counter service and patronized by locals and has the best hamburgers. We also enjoy the Hilton Head Diner, good prices and food.
As for DVC merchandise I found out by accident that the supervisor of the Conch Flats General Store at OKW is responsible for the merchandise at the HH shop. I was wearing my "Shadow" tee shirt in Conch Flats last March and she happened to remark on it. It was on the sale table at HH when I bought it. She told me it was a 'collector's' item and had been discontinued. Too bad I love it.

NancyDVC - They still had a blue Shadow t-shirt for kids and adults last week. The only other HH shirt was the beige one with DVC member on the back. One CM told us that someone from Orlando was up this month re-arranging the store and said they were hoping to get new stuff soon. I know we have heard this before. I was thinking of sending an email asking about DVC merchandise.

CK1 - We did not have a problem with any bugs. I was expecting them. We did use bug spray for the campfires but that was it.
