Just back from 10 days at AKL...

We had a most excellent time there. Glad I found this board and was converted from thinking that the Royal Plaza would be "good enough" for our first-ever family trip to WDW.

What an amazing place. Room 2575, 2nd floor, Arusha Savannah, Zebra trail (far from lobby). We saw giraffes, zebra, etc. every day all day.

Just a really wonderful place.

same here room 2383 (can't remember the name of the savanna but it faced inwards on the end). AMAZING VIEW, animals all over the place. BTW the room was an upgrade for me because the standard view rooms were overbooked (WOOT)

We just got back from AKL - stayed the first three days at POR and then switched for 5 days at AKL 19th-24th.

Though we love POR (stayed twice before), AKL was awesome!

We were upgraded automatically as well - to room 2350. Must not have been too busy.Though fairly far from the pool (high use with a 9 year old) - it was not too bad and nothing to complain about. I love the design and architecture. My daughter is an animal nut so we spent lots of time looking at animals - especially at night with night goggles - that was a real hit.
The service was excellent, BOMA's food was wonderful and using the bus service to the parks was no problem.
All in all, a great stay and to be honest, has made us one of the converted. AKL will be home for our next visit as well.

Maybe you can answer a question for me...I was told the lobby was on the 3rd floor...So if you had 2nd floor, were you below the lobby? Is that how that works? I requested Arusha Savannah, Zebra Trail also.

yes you are one level below the lobby. but on the same level as the firepit and viewing rock. i do not think they have any savanna view rooms on the first level.

Others have said that they felt the view was too low from the 2’nd floor but I didn’t not think so (it’s the same view you get from the observation decks and the observation rock), I had a great view of the left inside part of the savanna right at the giraffe feeding area (and where the zebras would chase hens around) and couldn’t see why I would want to be higher unless I was closer to the main lodge (I was almost at the end of the trail), where being higher would let you see the animals better for most of the day. I was VERY happy with the room and would request the same room number again in the future.

edit the pool slide did not seem to be working but i didn't go to the pool much (just walked by it after working out).

We love,love , love the AKL. Did I mention we love the AKL???? Glad to hear others feel the same way. I think the AKL concierge is the best on property.

The slide was open last week when we were there...whil,e the pool is open 24hours, the slide is only open while the lifegards are on duty (10AM-8PM, I think).

There are no savannah view rooms on the 1st floor.

The Lobby is on the 3rd floor (think split level home...) When you are on the 2nd floor, you need to walk up a flight of stairs or take the elevator UP to the lobby or down one floor to the pool, restaurants, etc...)

2nd floor savannah view was perfect... Here's a link to a pic from our room:
