We're back from our NJ Week trip. We drove down from Florida and stayed overnite each way (GA on the way down, VA on the way back).

Our total food spending for 4 people (3 adults, 1 child age 8) was $575.
That works out to an average of $143.75 per person for 8-1/2 days of travel.
That also works out to an average of $16.91 per person per day.

Here's the quick rundown of where we ate each day. Breakfast was eaten in our condo with groceries we bought down there. On the road, the hotels we stopped at included breakfast.

11/1 On the road to Florida
Lunch - Wendy’s
Dinner - Waffle House

11/2
Lunch - Sweet Tomatoes on I-Drive
Dinner - Wolfgang Puck Express in DTD

11/3
Lunch - Crystal Palace (MK)
Dinner - Casey’s Corner (MK)

11/4
Lunch - Sunshine Season Food Fair (EC)
Dinner - Flippers Pizza (Old Town)

11/5
Lunch - Rosie’s (MGM)
Dinner - Condo

11/6
Lunch - Shoney’s (off-site)
Dinner - Cosmic Ray’s (MK)

11/7
Lunch - Kona Kafe (Poly)
Dinner - Giordano’s (off-site)

11/8 On the road home
Lunch - KFC
Dinner - Denny’s

11/9
Lunch - Sbarro’s

I'd be happy to answer any questions about where we ate or specifics about what each place cost.

It sounds like you really did good with your food budget. Did you share meals?
Can you post what you ate each day? I am planning my trip for Dec and need to cut costs and meals sounds like the way I might have to do it. I can't cut out those Margaritas in Mexico though, those are a necessity when I am at Epcot. I don't drink at all when I am home, just in Epcot, my little splurge treat. Peggie

I think listing everything each of us ate every day might be a bit much, though I'll do it if folks want to read it.

To give you a more brief answer - yes, we did sometimes share meals. Specifically, at Wolfgang Puck Express, we got 3 items for the 4 of us - chicken strips, bbq chicken quesadillas and spinach and mushroom pizza.

At Casey's and Cosmic Ray's we shared fries (one order at Casey's, 2 at Ray's).

At Kona Cafe, DW and I got one appetizer (crab cakes) and one entree (pan asian pasta) for the 2 of us. Their servings are plenty large enough to do that.

At either lunch or dinner each day, we just drank water (tap, not bottled). At the other meal we drank water or DD, DW and I shared one soda. MIL got her own.

Snacks during the week included churros in Mexico - yum, ice cream bars in the parks, Jelly Bellys (bought offsite, not at Disney prices), assorted candy, caramel apples and fudge at Candy Cauldron in DTD and some stuff we bought at the grocery store (granola bars, cheese and crackers, etc.)

Probably the biggest places we saved were eating breakfast in our condo and drinking tap water throughout the day.

I'm amazed when I read how much some people spend on food at Disney. We spent less than $17/person/day. Some people post that they spend more like $50/person/day. I don't think any of us could possibly eat that much.
