We just returned very late last night from FW. We stayed in the 1000 loop and I don't think the flies were a problem. I saw less than 20 flies the whole week we were there!! We only used bug repellent one night and it was not the one talked about on previous posts. (I did order that one but it smells so bad! However, I would have used it if I needed to) Pests are more of a problem than that where we live. The 1000 loop was great except that there is no cable and we did not have enough clearance to get our dish to work (no Tom and Jerry for the screaming 3yo!). This was our second trip and our site was a bit too short. I had to park off the pad kind of in the woods so we could get in and out of our site (bikes, walking) and they made me pull the car back up. I should have parked like all the other folks and stuck out in the road about 4 feet and see how they liked that! I wouldn't be so miffed other than I called 3 or 4 times to make sure they realized our TOTAL length with camper and tow vehicle (and this was the 2nd time this has happened!) It was close enough to walk to the pool/campfire/store with all three of our kids (ages 9, 5, 3yo). We rode bikes alot and had a cart the last two days which made it really easy to get to trails end and the beach to watch the fireworks. I was very disappointed in the beach! They do not allow swimming, which I can understand because of boat traffic, but we did not realize this and my kids are use to playing in the water when we go to a "beach". Maybe next time we will take the boat over to the Contemporary or Poly to use their beach! As always with Disney, the comfort stations were great and I used the showers there instead of the camper so I could take a NICE LONG HOT shower without interruptions from the kids. This as pretty much a camping only trip for us this time and my group was ready to leave by the time our week was up.

If you felt your site was too small you should have picked out a different one and called the front desk. We have done this many times when we weren't happy with our site.

As far as the beach goes, no matter where you go, the resorts or campgrounds, you will see the same signs about not swimming in the water. They have had this for many years.

Glad to hear you didn't have problems with flies.

I think the no swimming is in regards to the water quality not the boat traffic. We too were disappointed in not being able to swim at the beach.

We just got back from Fort Wilderness yesterday. We were there for almost a week and never saw one fly. We were in the 400 loop.

Yes the beaches were closed due to bacteria in the lake. The first time we went you could swim, play in the sand, just like a real beach - just no big waves:) But when we went back the next year all the signs were in place and we asked why. We were told the lake was not safe due to bacteria level:eek:

We got home yesterday (26 June) after 12 days and we were not bothered by flies. We did have ants in the camper and that was a constant battle, but we may have brought them with us. We had a great site as well in the 900 loop.

We stayed in the 900 loop also and had the ant problem. I called and complained a bit and they came right out and sprayed around the camper and even cut some limbs off the trees. Apparently they were falling from the trees too. The spraying helped some, but not too much. Every morning and evening, we had to take the water hose and spray off the camper. They did however give me a free night stay the next time we camped there.

We just got back from our 2 night trip. We were in the 1500 loop and while the flies were around they were not a big problem. However, I would recommend a screen room if you plan to spend much time out in the early morning or at dusk.
