Just Back - Extremely Disappointed

wow im terribly sorry to hear all these bad things about the poly.
i had thought about staying there next october but now i think i will stay at the contemporary instead.

NOt to make this political, but, If you want to know why toilets don't flush anymore....just look at your government.

For awhile, toilet smuggling was a good business. (from what I've heard) ((probably still is))

Yep. I think of Al Gore every time I flush my toilet...two and three times to get a 1" X 1" piece of toilet paper to go down! :lmao:

4.5 gallons to flush what used to take a single 3 gallon flush. :confused3

Sure looks to me like you're trying to make it political...

I hate to barge in on this thread, but I just returned from my stay at the French Quarter last night and despite trying to get a hold of a manager on numerous occasions (for the multiple problems I encountered), I wasn't able to speak with one. Does anybody know of an email address or regular address where I can write a letter to inform them of these "problems"?

Holy cow, I can't believe the number of people that had awful times.

I thought we were one of the few but apparently we were one of many.

I guess Disney is having problems.

You will hear more bad than good of any resort. There have been plenty of good reviews of the Poly as well. We visited the Poly last Monday as a breather from the MK and everyone we encountered was very friendly. We shopped in the gift shop and we had a nice talk with the CM; we passed the marina and the three people working there all said, Aloha, and have a nice day; we passed the Registration desk and the two women there said Aloha and we went into Captain Cooks for a drink and they were very friendly.

I'm sorry to hear you had problems on your trip. We had a great four night stay at the CSR and had very friendly CM's when we went to visit the AKL and the POFQ, as well as the Poly.

While on my trip i went to poly for breakfast at kona cafe (this was like four days before your trip). we go to the MK to find out the monorail was down and we had to take a bus. well we get there and after breakfast go downstairs and the before going back up to the station we ask 3 CMs if the system was up. NO ONE knew the monorail had been down. i mean how do they not no that the monorail was down for like 2 hours? the staff there seemed the least friendliest and informed and i was shocked since it was a deluxe resort.

im sorry to hear you had so many problems. i was under the impression that disney went above and beyond for special needs. i have food allergies and believe it or not even after filling out all the forms they only offered me ice cream for dessert most of the time. even at my "signature" dining experience all they could do was give me the same prepacked brownie they sold all over WDW. i guess disney must be having internal issues meeting people's expectations.

We found the Poly staff to be lacking last time we were there trying yo get help in the CS was imposible the staff just stood talking, completely ignoring my pleas for help. All they needed to do was answer a simple question for me.
It was so bad that we no longer stay at the Poly any more opting insted for AKL Jambo house.

We were totally unimpressed with out BWI Innkeeper's Club stay a couple of months ago. I wrote about it on the Club Level/Concierge thread and was flamed by Disney loyal devotees. The food offerings were poor and the CM attitude was "what now?"

I, too, wonder just what is going on at Disney these days?

The Waldorf Astoria at Bonnet Creek is looking very attractive to me these days!

OP, I totally understand that the staff is uninformed. When we stayed there last Spring, we were given wrong directions to our building (Aotearora). Then when we realized that we were given wrong information, none of the CMs we saw walking on property could tell us how to get there. After finding a map, we figured it out for ourselves. When we were unpacking, we found a soiled bra in a dresser drawer. We will never stay at the Poly again. The only decent CM we met was the sweet cashier in the gift shop.

I am so sorry this happened to you but I am glad your dd had a good trip. I think the thing with the shower vs. tub is just unacceptable and I would for sure write guest services. These weren't idle requests on a whim but rather needs based on your husbands diablity. WDW prides itself on accomodating such needs so they need to walk the walk so to speak.

I hope your next trip goes better. And next time, verify your requests have been met at the desk and don't leave for the room until they get it all straight!

I'm not surprised. I think Disney has been taking advantage of their loyal followers for years. For the prices they charge:

* the food should be excellent (every time)
* the facilities and rooms should be in top notch shape
* service should be beyond reproach
* the parks should have a much higher investment schedule

Look at the Disney quarterly reports. Profit from the parks has been used for years to overcome other shortcomings.

One consistent theme I'm hearing from those 'just returning' right now is how busy it was.

I'm not terribly surprised to be hearing these comments. The Free Dining offer which was in effect for many guests thru the end of September is exactly the sort of thing which takes a relatively slow period and turns it absolutely insane.

And I'm going to be perfectly honest, I just do not enjoy Disney when resorts are at or even near capacity. That usually means parks are at or near capacity and that just makes it too much like a guerilla mission to visit the parks. And the resort, which should be a haven from the insanity of the parks are frequently understaffed during these 'peak periods' and as many can attest, the Disney principles suffer in those circumstances.

It's hard to know when certain offers are going to be at their peak but Free Dining is one that for the past few years has typically sold out the entire allotment of rooms made available to it.

I wonder if this year they increased the number of rooms on that promotion? Be interesting if anyone can shed light on that aspect... altho I suspect that its one of those situations where those who know - can't say.

I'm not so sure it was FD or F&W, but having just returned myself, I can tell you it was every bit as busy in the parks as it is in June and July. If you get up early and are there at rope drop it is pretty much walk on everything until around 11:00 a.m.

At 11:00 a.m., regardless of the park, it is as if the floodgates have opened. This was the case in May when we were there as well.

In June/July, you can be there at rope drop and get in a few rides before the throngs catch up, but it isn't the "walk-on" or minimal wait for the first few hours that we had in May and September.

Last week WS opened early most mornings and the booths were operating before 11:00 a.m. WS was really crowded all day from 9/30 until we left on 10/4, but we didn't find FW to be bad until the witching hour of 11:00 a.m.

We only had a couple of ADRs, but walk-ups were being taken at 50s for lunch. Le Cellier was booked, but when we were dining (1:10 p.m.) there were many open tables that remained so the entire time we were there. :confused3

The F&W booths had very long waits. We were quite pleased that we had pretty much taste tested everything early to mid-week--by Friday/Saturday evening WS was as packed as I have ever seen it. :scared1:

All of that said, we were at BC and it was not full and neither was YC.

Just to keep this post somewhat on topic, we also made our way up to Polynesian a couple of days to visit. One evening the quiet pool was closed for cleaning, but otherwise the resort itself looked great. We had nice interactions with the CMs and enjoyed a Lava Flow from the Barefoot Bar. The Polynesian did not appear to be full up on the two separate occasions we were there, but then again we were only there for short periods of time each day.

I am really sorry that you had such a negative experience Trishtack. I agree, it was hot this year, but my husband and I were hoping for those 90s and NO RAIN after the rainfest and chilly weather we suffered through in May.

As I have said many times before, everyone has their own favorite resort and the only way to find it is to keep trying them all. We really enjoyed our BC stay--in fact, we've enjoyed our stays at most of the resorts, some more than others, but the Polynesian is definitely our favorite. I hope you find your "home" at Disney and I'm glad your DD had a great trip despite the glitches for you and your husband.

I am really confused about the way people keep talking about the crowds and saying that after 11:00 there was a wait for rides. We were there September 19-22 and we literally walked on to every single ride with the exception of Toy Story Mania and Soarin and Peter Pan (Soarin' was 20 minutes and Peter Pan was 15 minutes--although Peter Pan was early in the morning); we were there all hours of the day and we literally walked on to everything. DH and I often wondered where everyone was; we knew there were people there but t hey never seemed to be on the rides. We stayed at the CSR and although it was sold out (or so we were told) you would have never known it; we'd walk the paths and hardly saw anyone and we had the quiet pool to ourselves one night and the main pool had maybe 20 people in it when we were there. My only guess is that once the F&W started the crowds got worse?

We were there 9/28-10/4. Food and Wine began 9/25. That's why I wondered about F&W being the cause for the crowds rather than FD. There were huge groups people all together at WS--one group had numbered shirts and we saw the #205 on one of them. . .not sure how much higher the shirt numbers went.

We were at the Poly Sept 22-29. Both Kona and 'Ohana were crowded and the Great Ceremonial House was so noisy it was painful to the ears. I agree the concierge did not seem to know what was up; told us DTD opened up at 9:30 so we went there and discovered that nothing opened till 10:30 or so. Noticed several employees at Capt Cooks that seemed to have a 'deer in the headlights' attitude but maybe they were new? On our last day we went in to Capt Cooks to grab a quick breakfast before our flight. We were the only people there (it was about 7:15) and it took them 15 mins to produce an adult breakfast platter. It was like they didn't even care. As far as the park crowds, only Friday night, the first Friday of F&W was crowded. We walked onto almost every ride, except Soarin. The crowds picked up over the weekend but that's to be expected.

Yeah, I am betting F&W is the culrprit. We had friends who were there from the 4th to the 12th of September. They had zero crowds the whole time except for Labor Day Weekend (Sat and Sun, not so much Monday). She said fp machines were closed up, even Soarin was never more than 20 minutes at any time of day. Then I read KatMark's report from about a week later and see the same thing. So to me, its got to be Food and Wine. I am betting a lot of free diners waited to go in that time frame. Frankly, as much as I love the booths, to me, I'd miss it and go earlier!

yikes...and I was hoping to plan a last minute surprise trip to stay onsite at a value resort for the 1st time at the end of October. Maybe I'll be rethinking were our money will be going.

I am so hoping that everything will be great at Poly when we arrive in March. Keeping my fingers and toes crossed! :)
I am sorry that you guys had a bad experience, but so glad that your daughter enjoyed herself...
