Just back on Saturday, spent 3 days at Universal/IOA with 9, 12 and 15 year old. Got to parks by 8:30 am and walked onto all rides up until around noon. It was great, did not use express pass at all. By the time we left parks at around 2:00 the lines were huge and it was very, very hot. We rode the Hulk three times and Spiderman three times. They were our favourites! We stayed at Hawthorn Suites on Canada Ave. so we were only 10 minutes away from parks. I am happy to answer any questions!

I am brining my niece, who will be 12, in Sept. for her first trip. Did your 12 yr. old seem up for anything, or sort of scared? I've never traveled with a child this age before, as my dd is only 3, so I know what she can and can't do! Glad to hear that you had a great time, and also that the crowds weren't that bad. We have bought the Kodak express passes for all of us, maybe we won't need them until we go back in Dec. Thanks for the info!

Our 12-yr old was indeed up for anything. He was a bit nervous going on the Hulk the first time but loved it. He did absolutely everything in the park which was surprising as at fairs he doesn't like rides that spin. My 9 year old daughter would not do the Hulk or Duelling Dragons but was ok with everything else even Dr. Doom. She loved Spiderman. So, I guess it depends on how cautious your neice is. Everyone loved the water rides at IOA also. They were not scary just plain good fun!!!!

Glad to hear a good story about getting to the park early. That was the key to your good day.

When I read the line that said you got there at 08:30am, I knew it was going to be a good report.
When I read TRs from people who arrive at 11am, it's a completely different story.

Yes, I don't think I could have coped going later in the day. It was just so nice to have space and be able to enjoy the parks without so many people. It made all the difference in the world!

Can you see Univervsal IOA in just 2 days?
Is Universal Orlando worthwhile?

We are planning a trip to Orlando to visit WDW and Universal and are wondering how much time to allocate to each.

Thanks!

Universal Orlando is awesome. You will love both parks. We went for 3 days and did alot, but we could have easily stayed 5-6 at a more leisurely pace. Others feel that is too much, but IMO it would be great to truly enjoy EVERYTHING at Universal Orlando including resorts, Citywalk and so on.

I also agree! We had to keep to an agenda to see everything we wanted. There were many things that we had to by-pass because of time constraints. As I said before, I just loved IOA. It seems a bit less commercial than Disney and there were less people so that made it more enjoyable. If you are on a tight schedule you need at least a day each for IOA and Universal. On our third day we did our favorites of both parks.

Thank you both for your feedback. I thought the parks were much smaller! I'm glad I asked.
