Just back...any questions!?

Since you asked~~where did you stay? How was the hotel? If you stayed on site, then how were the waits for FOTL rides? Where did you eat and was the food good? Okay, I think I'm finished now! :upsidedow

OK...I've got a few questions and wasn't quite sure where to ask them, so since you now asked -

First of all...did you have fun???

Now I had been planning on going to Disney for a couple of days sometime between Aug - Sept. BUT I live in Florida and just received a free pass for Universal, to be used before the end of Sept. So...I am now adjusting things to utilize this ticket. But I have not been there in years and NEVER to IOA.

Now here are the questions - originally I was planning on staying at Disney, but now I am thinking of either Portofino or the Royal Palace (name?), because of that front of the line access and AAA seems to offer some great discounts. Is that really a great perk to have? I have already signed up for the Lowes Hotel card, to get those perks too! And which hotel which you suggest?

Next - I am NOT a rollercoaster lover. Is there more to IOA other than just rollercoasters? That is all I seem to hear about! And Universal...good shows and rides there too?

Thanks much - I really would appreciate any input, anyone has :dance3:

Both parks have great shows and attractions. The roller coasters in IOA are awesome, but there's much more! I love the themeing in IOA, especially Suess Landing. It's a very charming park. Definately go!

I dont know why people keep hearing that IOA is a roller coaster park, there's 3 total, and plenty of other attractions for all ages. I guess since the 3 coasters are so much different than what Disney offers, its what's highlighted

Question, has the menu changed at Mythos at all? And if so, any recommendations?

Yes I too would agree that I would not consider IOA or U a "coaster" park. Those are 6-Flags and Cedar Point. IOA and U do have a few great coasters, but my favorite rides there are not the coasters, they are the Spider Man 3-D ride, Jurassic Park River Adventure, MIB, the Mummy (OK this one is a bit of a coaster) but the others definitely are not coasters.

I would consider both much more of a "theme" park, not a coaster park. The themeing there is the best of the best. :thumbsup2

Great! Thanks for all the input. I guess we will go and take advantage of this offer we received.
And do you all agree that it is beneficial to stay at one of their hotels to get that front of the line access? I am thinking this would be a great plus!

On the Mummy ride, when you first depart and you see that Skeleton that tells you we shouldn't be there (I think??)- is it stilll wearing the red Universal Mummy hat?? That always annoys me!! Takes away from the themeing of the ride!!

As far as I know he's still wearing the cap. But that's no different than at JPRA with the uniform of the dearly departed team member.

Ohhhhhhhhh

So the hat is supposed to be because the man was wearing the hat when he died of the curse?? I get it!! I thought it was just supposed to be funny! So wear is the rest of his clothes? Was he at a nudest beach when the curse got him??

All three on site hotels offer a FL/GA residents rate that is A LOT less than other rates posted. Call their reservations # and ask for that rate. My husband and I have taken advantage of it several times (we live in GA).
For instance, we are going back down to the HRH in a week. The rate we got is about $70 less than the standard rate. Also, don't expect to get "multiple discounts" (ie.: combine a special rate AND take advantage of the loews membership perks), as with most hotels/resorts, you have to pick ONE deal.
FYI; we've always chosen the lowest rate, the perks with loews are great, but @ more than $200 per night (with lowest rate) we would rather save $75 a night! HOPE YOU HAVE FUN!!!:

DH stayed at the Royal Pacific a couple of years ago and loved it! Beautiful resort, great location and the "front of the line pass" was very nice to have. Since you're getting a free pass, and your transportation cost will be low since you're a FL resident, it might be worth the extra $ to stay onsite once, IMHO. Have fun!

Yes...I definitely want to stay on-site now!! We will only be going for two nights - one day in both parks (yikes!), but it will be a great chance to see Universal and take advantage of their properties - since I usually would head first to Disney.

Thanks for the input!

BTW...being that I will only have the one day and I am not a rollercoaster junkie - what rides and/or shows are "must-sees"?

Are any rides down for rehab?

Definately FOTL is a great perk to have. We're Florida residents and always stay onsite, even during the off season. AAA is combinable with your Loew's First perks, so using that for the discount is quite a deal. I've stayed at all hotels and I think Portofino Bay is definately the "lushest" hotel, I quite like Royal Pacific for the convenience of the short walk to IoA. It's almost a mile from PBH to Citywalk, which can be pretty long if it's hot outside.

IoA has some good shows and rides that aren't roller coasterish. The Sinbad show is pretty good and Poseiden's Fury is also good the first couple times you see it. Jurassic Park just has one drop, at the end but the rest of the ride is pretty smooth and Spiderman is such a different ride you have to try it.

Universal has more shows and less "thrill" rides but still has a lot to see and do. I think you'll really enjoy both parks.

LOL. Where'd the OP go to answer these questions?

That's so funny :rotfl2: I was wondering the same thing!!!

And thanks soooo much Holly..I appreciate the input!! I can handle "mild" coasters, just not the crazy ones. Like at DW, I like Big Thunder and Splash Mountain - you all must think I am such a wuss!!! But any tips really do help, as we will only have the one day there. Although I sense I will be wanting to go back - it does sound like fun!! :yay: And the hotels too!!
