Hi...just back from WDW using the dining plan, what a great food week we had! The plusses..Not only did it end up saving us over $500 :earseek: for a family of 4, 2 Adults/2 children, 9 day stay (with 9 snacks remaining), but another great thing was the fact we got to try many different food venues that I normally wouldn't have! There was so much food to eat, you won't go hungry on this plan. I also got pleasantly surprised when I went to the Tangerine Cafe for lunch and presented my room card to charge and she said "oh, you have the dining plan, would you like to use that instead?" Woohoo bonus!, that was not on the list they gave me at check in (which I guess has since been updated, they just gave me an old one). All child counter service meals were ordered as adult meals with out any problems. All CM's seemed to know about the plan. I will put together a dining plan review a bit later for anyone interested...

The minuses...A lot of food gets wasted. My BF is a HUGE eater as is my DS 7, Even they rarely finished their food. So to try all your dishes you can't eat it all or no room for that wonderful desert! We stayed at AKL, were for some reason many of the cashiers believe that when ordering breakfast on "the plan" you are not entitled to two "items" (ie: lunch = meal, desert), only 1 and a drink. Other cashiers there and in the parks, gladly gave you the two items, even reminding you to get them. So just a word of caution. Many of the table service restaurants now have child appetizers included on the childrens menu that they get to pick. My kids didn't like the choices so went without getting one. We did have one mixup were the card should have had 4 table service meals left and when the server came back he said there were none, Ahh, but wise people of the Dis board told me to keep track so I knew there were still 4. It took about 20 minutes with the Mgr of the restaurant on the phone with I guess AKL front desk to finally resolve it and get it though. And lastly we just could not use up all the snack points. After at least 1 desert a day even the kids couldn't eat anymore ice cream :mickeybar , so 9 went unused, need more choices here.

So thats the quick summary, any questions about it, ask away!

We are using the new plan in 28 days so I can't wait! :)

Thanks for the review!

Did you get to use a Ts for the Fantasmic Dinner Package???

CRO says it is not on the plan, but many visitors succeeded once at the restaurant.

Where did you eat for your sit down meals? Were there any restrictions on what you could order off the menu? Like shrimp or lobster? Were you able to order any non-alcholoic drink or just soda? :confused3

No, sorry didn't get to do the Fantasmic dinner package.

We ate at Boma diner (2) and breakfast (2) paid cash for kids at 1, Crystal Palace, Donald's Breakfast, Jiko, Spoodles, and Sci-Fi (paid cash for kids, really cheap). At Spoodles I had the steak which had an additional add on of a skewer of Shrimp of Scallops, I asked if I could add one with the plan and the server said "Sure, you can even add both and share" so we did. As far as drinks we got milkshakes somewhere, the only additional I remember paying for was the booze and the light up ice cubes at Sci-Fi...

Just to ask about using the dining plan for breakfast at akl, we are planning on doing this. Did you get 2 items?

Thanks

Kac

sounds like we had similar savings! We were there for 9 night 4/22 - 5/1 and we also saved $500 for a family of me, dh, dd5 and dd2.

We used our last 9 snack credits to buy Mickey Rice Crispie treats to take home.

Can you remember which ones? Another poster said Concourse Steakhouse and Sci Fi. Can you think of any others?

Also, there was a post a little while ago (you may have been at WDW!) that said a piece of fruit, a bag of Lay's chips, and I think one other item (maybe milk?) had been added to the list of snack items!

Edited to add: No, it's not milk that was added, it was apple juice.

Here's a link to the new brochure:

we got chocolate milk, oj and juice boxes as snack items on the plan, this seemed to be only at food court places, not at snack carts

It is so good to keep hearing that people are enjoying the plan. We go next month and I can't wait to try it. I was just thinking today that I don't have to save money for food because it is already included.

My question that I can't figure out is the leftover snack credits. I know if I have any left I would buy the water or the fruit/chips if anything to bring on the plane or bring home. :earsgirl:

KAL2005, we used a couple counter service for breakfast on three different days, once (the first) we were told we could have two items, the other two we were told we could not. The last time I said something about the inconsistancy and she put two through, while griping that its not allowed. All other places we got any breakfast items (various parks) we were allowed two items. :confused3

BettyCV, we also had a sit down at Spoodles that had them, they seemed to have a better selection then other restaurants, my children got a salad. Sci-Fi had carrot/celery sticks and ranch dip, and cut up fruit with yogurt dip.
