I've encountered a seemingly shared "pet peeve" on this thread- the pushing/shoving/trying to run you down to get ahead of you in the queue. Normally I'll just either have us arranged beside one another in my family so they can't do that and/or put my arms out to hold both sides of the rail/rope/whatever to deter this from happening. It seems to happen a lot and it's very annoying. I don't understand what makes SOME people think they are above the rules and everyone else should wait in line but not THEM. oh no- they should be able to just shove their way by you to the head of the line (or there abouts). It's so rude, and so wrong. I got a lot of dirty looks whenever I positioned our family or in some other way "blocked" them from cutting. As if *I* was doing something wrong? Whatever.

To G00fyDad.....the orange light from a digital camera (mine is blue) is light that helps the camera focus in low lights. This is different from the flash. Both can be turned off. I also didn't realize that I had a focus assist light until I was playing with my new camera at home and took pics of my cat. She kept closing her eyes just as I was taking the pic...it drove me nuts until I noticed the light.

Thank you for answering that question because I really have no idea what it was for! I'm going to check to see how to turn mine off!

I have to agree with anyone who has the cell phone and people "cutting in" line pet peeve--this past trip cell phones were absolutely everywhere! They were ringing inside attractions or in lines and people talking throughout the parks--if you use them then at least turn the ringer to vibrate or answer it when it first rings!!
As for the people who think they can just walk right by you in line--I HATE when they come from the sides--bypassing the 20 person long line-- when you are inline to meet a character! Not only do they just barge right in but then they decide it's so cute to take up huge amounts of time like they are the only ones who wanted to see the character!

Ohhhhhh I see. I will have to turn mine off then. If I take pics while inside a ride then I dont want to offend someone by blinding them. I know I'm not going to be the only person at Disney world. I am always aware of those around me and how something I am doing may affect them. If my pics dont turn out because of having no flash then I have adigital and can just erase the bad frame. Oh well, its not like I am going to be wasting money on film. Besides. It will be our first time there. I really dont want to see WDW through a 2.5X2.5 inch LCD screen.

It's not the same as a line, they can't keep CM's along all the queue's to keep cutting from happening. but with a character- they are there, they should be the ones to inform the "cutters" that the line is here, please go to the end of the line and wait like others.
If they don't do it -I'll say it though. I don't have much patience for people who think they are too good to wait in line like we are doing. LOL

I wonder if CMs are given training on how to handle difficult/rude people? Does any one know.

For my part Disney is just such a special place...it's just SO much more than an amusment park (which seems to be how many treat it). When we went as little kids my folks drilled it into my brother and me that Disney was a VERY big treat and if we couldn't be good we'd leave!

So now 20 something years later, when I just paid out a couple grand for a week of "the magic" I know my folks had it right.

I know that other smaller parks do the "problem guest" training. WDW is surely large enough to do so.

Actually, I have a friend who is a "character" at WDW right now. Her biggest pet peeve is when she is sent out WITHOUT an escort. From what she says, it FREQUENTLY happens.

Here's my worst story (admittedly, not that bad...but, still...). We were riding IASW at DL, and there was a Spanish-speaking family in front of us. There were 8 children with two parents. There were 4 rows of seats on the boat, and Mom, Dad and the baby and 2 yr old got on the first row. Their 4 middle daughters got on the second, row. And, the two "pre-teen boys" got on the third...we were the 4th. As soon as the ride started. the boys pulled out paper wrapped straws, and began using the straws to shoot "spit wads" at the dolls in the ride. They must've done this a lot..they were pretty good and kept "hitting their marks". I leaned over and told the boys to stop, but a few minutes later...they were back at it. So, I leaned over again and told the boys I would notify the CM at the end of the ride of what they were doing if I saw one more "spit wad" being shot at the dolls. The parents said nothing to the boys...and, it seemed like this was a "usual thing" they did. They had a WHOLE bunch of straws stuffed in their pockets. People make me SOO mad.

One more question. When is "Brazilian tourist season". I think I'd like to avoid this time.

last week there seemed to be a lot of brazillian groups. Perhaps I'm wrong, but they were from some south american country. There was also a lot of Japanese young adults there as well. I guess maybe they have off college there during that time. My daughters met the most wonderful girls from Tokyo who just fell in love with each other at Fantasmic. My daughters got their autographs and the college girls too pics of all of them with polaroids and gave them to my girls with their names on it. It was such a great time! I wish I would have gotten one of the girls email addresses. My daughter was so sad when we had to leave.

In my opinion, the Japanese people I've seen at DW appear to be very nice and their children are almost always very well mannered. Just an observation.

Rudeness in all forms is my pet peeve.

I especially hate it when, during shows like Fantasmic and the Lion King, the person in front of me holds their videocamera waaay up high, with the little screen flipped out. But they make sure that they hold it to the side, so that it doesn't block their view.

I agree....throughout my teens my family hosted several exchange students and the Japanese were hands down the most wonderful guests!!! My observation is that their culture is very focused on appropriateness and I suppose consideration to others (or maybe more accurately respect for rank) either way, it translates into a culture and people that I always enjoy being around.

Ok, regarding the dark rides and pictures, I am very guilty of this. I was around 9 years old and LOVED all the rides and totally wanted pictures of EVERY angle, corner, details, etc. I honestly didn't think I'd get to go back to WDW again ever.

Fast forward about 20 years and now I completely understand how frustrating it is to try and enjoy the ambience of the dark rides and have someone flash shooting their camera the whole time.

So I try and have some patience, but some people are truly jerks about this.

Speaking of flash photos. This last Nov. at the AKL there was a couple who were standing maybe 15 ft. back from the tree and had there little one in front of the tree taking flash photos. This was not an expensive camera and I knew they were not going to turn out to their liking but I said nothing. A flash is good for maybe 8 to 10 feet. The lobby is big impressive but dark...smjj
