Just back, 6 nights at AKL, any questions...

We had the most perfect vacation ever. Got the AP rate for a standard room at AKL...upgraded to savannah view (Kudu) at check-in.

Gorgeous holiday decorations (huge tree in lobby).

Wonderful weather, low crowds, only used FP twice the entire time (Philharmagic and Pooh on Friday afternoon).

MVMCP was incredible. Best parade we saw the entire time. The snow on main street--cool.

Wishes itself was worth the trip. The awe in my children's eyes...priceless.

Sorry, I digress. This is the resorts board. Any questions about the resort? or anything?

This may sound silly but did you have any odor problems with the Savannah view? I just envision smelling a zoo in our room or out on the balcony.

Absolutely no odor. We saw some workers doing some scooping during our visit, so they keep it all very tidy.

We sat on the balcony often drinking coffee, reading the paper, admiring the animals. No odor at all.

But speaking of odors, the lobby has the most wonderful aroma. I don't know what it is, but it is heavenly. Sort of woodsy and spicy. I want to live there.

So glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay! AKL is my favorite resort. We stayed there for our 10th wedding anniversary. I'm hoping that perhaps we can find the time to stay there again this coming year to celebrate our 13th (thereby making it lucky 13)! I loved it so much that I only want to stay there for special occasions, if that makes sense.

Did you ask for the upgrade? Was it free?

I have a standard room booked for Feb and now am thinking I would like to try for a better view at check-in. It's not a biggie, and I am willing to pay for it if necessary.

I faxed a note to the resort 4 days before the trip with a request for bunk beds (which I believe are only savannah view). I didn't say a word a check in since I feel awkward flat out asking for something I didn't pay for. After lots of typing, she gave us a map of the resort and circled our room. Only then did I know that we were upgraded. She didn't say a word while checking us in.

It would seem that if the resort is not too busy, then you have a fairly good chance at an upgrade.
