Hi! Just got back from Paris last night and am dealing with killer jet-lag, but I wanted to share some of my thoughts with you all!

Highs:
*the beauty of the park and the detailing is 2nd to none of all of the Disney parks I have been to (all of the US ones numerous times). Just jaw dropping gorgeous.
*I loved how big the pathways are between all the lands- very spacious
*Dreams! WOW! I loved the Hunchback part and the Tangled part...very astounding effects.
*Food quality was good....(but there is a caveat which I list below!)
*I was impressed with many of the rides- I think DLP has the best of the best BTMRR, Pirates, Small World.
*Proximity of the DLH and our room relative to the park
*the size of our Family room- HUGE!
*Cinemagique- I LOVED THIS! LOVED!

Lows:
*I'm sorry, but in my opinion the Disneyland Hotel literally stinks. I don't know what that freshener is that they use in the hallways and common areas, but I think it completely STINKS. I get headaches so easily from perfumey smells like that- so thankful it wasn't in the rooms
*This hotel needs room makeovers, badly. It looks like a Disney standard of Deluxe of 20 years ago. The beds were very hard.
*another hotel complaint- the internet is a JOKE. Super slow, wasn't loading, we had technical bugs with our TV, internet and phone that were never fixed. At least they took the cost of the internet off the bill after we complained.
*Poor ride capacity at some of the rides like the train, casey jr. just poor loading by the CMs due to lack of attention.
*Absolutely grossed out by the bathroom standards- the smell of urine was overpowering in several of the bathrooms we went into.
*Saw a child urinating in a walkway between Fantasyland-Adventureland. With his mother right there encouraging him. He was no more than 3/3.5 but still?
*the weather was yucko- cold and rainy the entire time. But oh well- I rather that than the extreme heat of Orlando we experienced last summer!
*the prices of food at DLP are outrageous! My biggest disappointment was the Agrabah cafe- we went for an early dinner at 3:00 and it was already going to close at 4:00. Many dishes were already 'out' when we went thru the buffet line and were never replenished even though they were seating new people. Bad form. I didn't get to try any hummus that I've read rave reviews about because they were already out. :( (but what I did eat was pretty darn good!)
*Blatent smoking in queues. :-(

Thanks for reading- it was a dream come true for me to get to go! Overall I loved it.

sounds like overall you had a great trip :goodvibes. I have to agree with you about the public areas of the DLH, I find it a bit overpowering, so does my DD. Its not the smell so much (sandalwood and vanilla I believe), its the concentration of it for me.

Glad you had a lovely time overall and liked the park. I think it's beautiful too :goodvibes

I must agree about the standards of the toilets. I always keep hand sanitiser with me at DLP.

It's a shame you didn't like the rooms at DLH - they've always been very nice when we've stayed, maybe things have changed :confused3

Glad you enjoyed most of the trip. I agree about the beds in the DLH they are hard which is strange as none of the other onsite hotel beds are:confused3

It sounds like a great trip overall:goodvibes Sadly there seem to be a lot of comments about the standards of the toilets at the moment. I hope they start listening and sort it out soon

Glad you had such a good trip on the whole, and loved the park so much. Hope you recover from the jet lag soon :goodvibes

Personally I love the smell, but I admit that it is very strong, so wouldn't be fun if strong scents give you headaches.

The worst DLP bed I have ever slept in was at the Cheyenne - I just couldn't get comfortable. All the others, including the DLH, have been fine for me!

sorry to hear about the lows, the smoking in the park does worry me, in cues with asthmatics in the family. What was your room no. we would love a large spacious room and have no idea which to request, unless you were a family of 5 then i think they are bigger. :surfweb:

We were 3 adult women so we paid for a family room. We were room # 3076.

I think I'm comparing the rooms to the newer hotels I've stayed at in the American parks. In the last 3 years we have gone to Aulani, grand californian, DL hotel in ca after the remodel, beach club and animal kingdom lodge. ( we are part of dvc). I just think the bedroom decor of the DLP DL hotel needs some freshening. :)

I haven't done any US parks but I do keep reading many Americans saying that DLRP has great attention to detail on the theming etc :).

I've stayed at the DLH twice and the smell has never bothered me but I realise it can be too strong in the public areas. For a good while they were selling it to take home - like a house air freshener but they stopped I believe.

As for the bedrooms, yes, I'd imagine they do need a overhaul now. Let's face it, the hotel is 20 years old and with people coming and going all the time! I think it seems like they are getting around to refurbing hotels slowly - DCR & SQL have been done recently. I'm sure the others will be started in the next few years. Or, at least I hope they will be!

It's been a while since my last trip but I never noticed the bathrooms. I wonder if it's because I predominantly used the Childcare Centers toilets - I had a baby at the time. I, like Ms Poppins, always carry hand sanitizer for us - seems like I might need more than I'd thought! I also think I'll add moist toilet tissue wipes to that list too!

Overall though, so pleased you had a great time :thumbsup2.

Room 3076 on the west wing? We recently stayed at 3070 ground floor.

Must admit I thought the hotel was fab and we really liked our room which was immaculate, I actually liked the bed's too, and I even liked the smell....sorry! :goodvibes Conversely our last WDW stay at the Boardwalk our 1 bedroom villa was in dire need of a refresh, I suppose sometimes you can be unlucky.
Only thing I didn't like was the wi-fi not working in the room.

Glad you had a great time overall :)

We all love the smell of the DLH too - so much that DH bought me the sachets to bring home! I do hope they haven't stopped selling them as they were really good value for money as they have only just stopped smelling - 11 months later!

It is worrying to hear about the rest room conditions - people have been talking about this for a while now. :worried:

Although its a few years since Ive been I always used to find the restrooms in the arcade the quietest and cleanest - they were a bit hidden away so not as obvious.
The ones next to Chalet des Marionettes were always the worst (busiest and not clean)
I suppose the busier they are the less clean they become.
I was always surprised by the number of people who didnt bother flushing - and Im talking about adults here not children
