I got 3 days off for labor day weekend (a rarity for a hospital nurse), but my boyfriend had to work. So I indulged in a solo trip. Got package deal from expedia.com
Flight: Delta. I luv this airline! Customer service better than United and American put together. Comfy seats. No dealys. Nice snack.
Hotel: Best Western LBV in DTD. Room was spacious, clean, comfy, and quiet. Came with fridge, coffee maker, hair dryer, microwave, and ample drawer space. $10/night cheaper than All-Stars.
HOWEVER, the transportation was THE PITS. Bus ride to parks took like an hour with other stops and on the way home at park closing bus still only came every 30 minutes...long wait and then being packed like sardines with other sweaty, smelly, sun-burned people. Not pleasant. If nothing else the $$$ to stay onsite is worth the transportation. Next time its Disney all the way for me.
Sat: MK. It rained. Glad I had my umbrella. Ate at Casey's Corner: yummy & good for solos because there's a tv to watch cartoons while eating. I got a Pal Mickey....love him!!!!! His antics kept me amused all day and added that little extra magic. Worked up the couraged to ride Space Mtn (use a FASTPASS) it was so much fun. Rode Splash Mtn, and relaxed on Tom Sawyer Island. Did Fantasyland and Adventureland and Liberty Square rides after 9:00pm with only like 2-10 minutes waits. Saw 2nd showing of Spectromagic (much less crowded than 1st) with front row seat--felt like a little girl again. Best part of the day: eating pinapple wedge from Aloa Isle while walking through Swiss Family Tree House in the quiet darkness. When I was alone I noticed all the beautiful, relaxing things Magic Kingdom has to offer. Take time to notice the little stuff.
Sun: MGM: By day 2 I felt comfortable enough to chat with people in line whoose questions I overheard and share my wealth of Disney knowledge with 1st-time visitors. Pay attention to inside jokes on Star Wars....like the announcement for speeder with license plate "THX 1138" to move.
I think solo I noticed the little jokes and gags on the rides more. Saw the muppets, ate a backlot express, had Mickey Ice cream bar, got a kiss from Sully, saw Little Mermaid (get a FASTPASS!!!), and One Man's Dream ( a must-see for the serious Disney fan). Enjoyed Backlot Tour more than I thought I would. Best part of day: that "Jim was here" feeling at the Muppets.
THe last night I was too tired to go out so I ordered room service and watched Finding Nemo on hotel pay-per-view. I love that movie.
Flight Home: agreed to get bumped for $400 Delta vouchers. Killed the time by planning my next trip.
Got home & opened door to find boyfriend on one knee with a dozen roses and the engagement ring I picked out. So my next Disney trip will be a "Disneymoon".
Weather in August not as bad as I thought, it felt more humid in Virginia to me. There was a nice breeze in orlando. But, be prepared for the rain and use FASTPASS. August is a good time to hit up some of the D-Ticket attractions because all the E-ticket ones had like 60-90 minute waits by late afternoon. I was skeptical if I would have fun solo...but I did and I'm glad I went. It was worth every penny!!!!!
