Hi Everyone...we just got back from a 2 day trip to DL and I have to say it was terrific! We typically go to WDW once a year so I have to be honest in saying I went in with low expectations because 9/10 people say DL does not come near to WDW. The only thing I will say that really surprised me is that there is hardly ANY billboards of mention of DL when driving there from the highway...but as soon as we checked in and from there on out everything was terrific.

We stayed at the Disney Land Hotel which from the outside looks old but is beautiful from the inside. Our room had an amazing room and was a good size. We went with 3 other people, so 4 in total.

Let me just say I LOVE that you can walk everywhere in DL. We walked right through Downtown Disney and right to the entrance of Disney Land and I thought that was amazing. I never knew it was that close and it felt good after what I ate!!

Disney Land was great. As soon s you walk in there is a neat 17 minute movie about Walt Disney and the opening of Disney Land. I truly think Disney in general has paid great tribute and respect to Walt's legacy. Main Street is just as cute as can be and the castle is nice. It is smaller and not as fun (in my opinion) as Cinderella's but we also have to remember Cinderella's castle is on a slight hill so that makes a huge difference.

As soon as we got to Disney Land we had ressies at the Blue Bayou at 11:30. The meal was incredible and it overlooks the Pirates ride which was so neat! The much raved Monte Cristo sandwich to me and my DH was just OK. My BIL ordered the crab cakes which were amazing so if I went back I would get those. The Monte Cristo was good but it was like a funnel cake with powdered sugar with a club sandwich inside. It did taste good but after 1/2 of the sandwich it got too rich and too much. The crabcakes were awesome though!

The rides at Disney were great. Pirates was MUCH longer then in WDW and Indiana Jones was amazing as well as Space Mountain. I didn't necessarily think DL was smaller in then the Magic Kingdom in WDW...I felt it was just right. Its a Small world was neat and the Haunted Mansion set up was cool too.

We had dinner at the ESPN Zone and had terrible service. The food was OK though. We complained to the manager who simply said she would talk to the waiter which was a disappointment, but oh well we were in DL!!!

The next morning we ate breakfast at Goofy's Kitchen in the bottom of our hotel....which was amazing. By far the best buffet we have had even in WDW as well. The food was amazing and very fresh and the character interaction was wonderful...everyone was very much so "in character".

Next we went to California Adventure which was just so so. It didn't feel Disney to me and the other 3 adult members of our party. We did Turtle Talk with Crush that was neat, Soarin, and a few other rides and then hopped back over to DL. I was sad that the Aladdin show only was shown Wednesday through Sunday...that was a big disappointment. Till next time I suppose!

The fireworks and parades in DL were superb. Real water in the parade floats and tinker bell flying around and around twice during the fireworks show. The Christmas parade was excellent too. My DH and I were speechless during the fireworks show though...what a treat.

Downtown Disney was fun. World of Disney was great. I bought some cool pins, frames and a T-shirt and sweatshirt! We ate at the Rainforest cafe which was neat but not necessarily excellent food. The atmosphere was neat but we weren't crazy about it (like the Blue Bayou crabcakes and the Goofy's Kitchen food).

Anyways we had a terrific time and will go back again even though I am sure it will be a long time from now...being in DL and knowing that Walt himself had been there was so powerful to me....we truly had a magical time! There were hardly any lines at all but it did get cold at night.

P.S The Dole Whips are wonderful!!

Thanks for the report. We have always gone to WDW, but have a chance to see DL next year. We had the same concerns as yours. I am glad to read your positive report for DL.

Sounds like an awesome time! :cheer2:

We go to DL in 3 days, and reading your trip report gets us so excited for Disney! :rotfl: We can hardly wait to see those amazing fireworks! :earseek: And we just love POC, and the Christmas version of IASW, and this will be our first time to ride the improved SM and the new Buzz Lightyear ride, so we're EXCITED to say the least!

How were the crowds? From the positive sound of your trip report, they must not have been too bad.

So glad DL gave you a good impression. It is a great park! :wave2:

Hey you!

The crowds were non existant. We did have a 20 minute wait for Space Mountain but everything else was about 5 or 10 or most we just walked right on. My biggest regrett is that we missed Fantastmic which from the reports I have read and people's opinions is 10X better then WDWs. It is only offered on select nights and on Sunday night is started at 10:30 and we were exhausted by then. So make sure you go!! Have fun and make sure to have a Dole Whip for me! :wizard:

You just made my day! :cool1: We're hoping to watch the 9:00 Fantasmic on Sunday if it isn't too crowded (candlelight processional this weekend) and if our boys aren't too tired (6 1/2 & 2 1/2 year olds). We're hoping the rest of our visit to DL and DCA (Mon, Tues, Weds, & Thurs) the crowds will be as you described - non existant. :wizard: :wizard: :wizard:

And we'd LOVE to have a Dole Whip (or two) for you! :rotfl:  :rotfl:

Thanks! :wave2:
