We just got back from our RunDisney vacation.
Stayed at POR for 4 nights, which was the third time we have stayed there for a RunDisney event. Love the location, and ease of access to Disney Springs. Buses were efficient and quick the two park days we used them for.
Thursday, January 4, we arrived to MK just as the opening show was finishing up. Everyone had to go through bag check that had a bag, and it appeared everyone had to go through metal detectors. It was crazy, and there was not much organization. They would benefit greatly from having some queue lines set up for bag check to make the process more efficient.
Crazy crowded at MK. EasyWDW had it as a 4, but I would say it was more of an 8. I think the combination of New Year crowds still being around and the RunDisney events falling a little earlier this year made things busier than usual. We were still able to get a lot done prior to early lunch (BTMMR, SM, POTC, HM, Small World, Mermaid) and then took it easy after that. Used FP+ where we could get them and stood in line when we wanted. It was all about being patient. Closing was extended until 11pm, and the lines died down noticeable after Wishes at 9.
Due to weather, the half marathon was cancelled on Saturday, so we headed to Epcot for rope drop. Once again the bag check lines were the worst part of the day. It was a little after 9 when we finally got in. Few lingering showers in the morning probably helped, but Epcot did not seem as crowded as MK had a couple days before. Did Frozen standby with about a 15 minute wait, Soarin standby with a 15 minute wait, Mission Space (FP), Spaceship Earth (FP). All before an early lunch. Then did Soarin (FP), Land, Nemo and Test Track twice in a row with single rider (10 minute wait each time). It was cold and really windy. Hard to believe the kids had been swimming the day before.
Even on the crowded days, you can get a lot done in those first couple of hours with some good planning.
