The last time I stayed at the Disneyland hotel was in 1990. When we went to our first room, it was FILTHY!!!! So we went to the front desk and requested a different room. They gave us another one and it was in the same condition, so we just stuck with it. I don't remember what tower it was. But my question is, are the rooms and bathroom kept clean nowadays? Has anyone experienced being in a dirty room there? I'm just trying to make a decision of whether to stay at DLH or GCH. :confused3

I personally have stayed @ the DLH at least 15 times in my life and have never had a dirty room. I have never even had a room that was remotely unkept. Honestly, every room I've ever had had a decent view (didn't pay for upgrade or concierge) and was impeccably clean.

The only "dirty" look was when they were replacing the carpet in the lobby of the Sierra tower and that carpet was really dirty and worn. Everywhere else in the entire hotel was impeccable though as was the room. They've also renovated the rooms since 1990 so I think your will be happy with the DLH.

The GCH is a new hotel obviously and more expensive, but I would choose DLH every time regardless if it were less or more than GCH, just my .02.

Yeah we have never gotten a dirty room either. And we stayed there when I was a kid around 1986 or so. Back then I don't remember the rooms having as much of a Disney touch as they do now, they have really redone the rooms since way back when. But even then our room was nice and clean.

The Grand Californian Hotel is very nice, as the previous poster said, much newer and expensive. They all have their perks IMO. We've stayed at both and I like both.

We were just at the DLH last week and everything was spotless. Our room was in Bonita tower, and very nice. I particularly liked the split bath set up, with the sink and vanity area in a different place from the rest of the bathroom.

I stayed at the DLH once in the early 80s, and have stayed around 10 times in the past dozen years. I've never had a problem with room cleanliness. However, the DLH's age does shows a little. The GCH may feel a bit cleaner because it is much newer. If cost is no factor, and you'd like the added convenience of being very close, stay at the GCH. But don't spend the extra money just thinking you're going to get better housekeeping.

I will be totally honest with you. We love staying at the DLH because my kids are 6 & 11 and still enjoy all the extras esp. the pool. We have always had nice housekeepers who take extra time to do things like line up the stuffed animals, fold the kids pjs and put them under the pillow, those kinds of things that make it nice for them.

I appreciate these extra touches but I have never checked in and not had some kind of small problem but I just overlook it and keep in mind it not a 4 or 5 star hotel. Last trip, we had toothpaste smeared all over the base of the vanity. After day 2, I finally cleaned it up myself. Our maid did not empty and rinse our coffee pot or give us a new bag for our ice bucket. I think these are basics that should be done daily. Do I wish she would have done those basic things and left the kids animals where they were? Who knows? The kids loved it but I grumbled everytime I went to make coffee or to get ice. We had a round "dirt" spot on the bathroom floor the entire trip and it bugged me but not enough to wash it myself-lol.

In March,we were so thrilled to be given a free upgrade to a suite! However, there were dirty socks on the floor and even a childs buildabear animal under the bed! In a SUITE no less! I just called housekeeping and they picked the stuff up and simply said thank you.

In Jan, we checked into our room and there was no light bulb in the bedside lamp-none, not just a burned out one but the socket was empty. There were pieces of broken plastic all over the floor and those two things to me were dangerous! I picked up all the plastic myself and had housekeeping bring me a lightbulb with a coffee pot and the caraffe was cracked. I still used it-oh well.

One time, we checked in and the room looked all clean and lovely but there was poop in the pot!! I was concerned whether the room had really been cleaned and called housekeeping who came up and flushed the toilet-lol. That was it.

So keep in mind that it will not be perfect even though at those prices, we all wished it was. I am never sorry after a trip that we stayed there and really find the beds comfy and I like the fact that each kid can get their own bed between the daybed and the free rollaway. I know that housekeeping works really hard but I would not say they are perfect but we put up with it because the kids love it and I love taking the monorail in and skipping the lines. I keep going back so it must not be too bad-lol. The kids socks have never turned black from dirty carpet either.
