Someone just tried to get my account info by PMing me saying they would give me free inferno. They went on to say they used to be be VMK staff and because of that they have speicial privledges such as a program (that takes 20 mintues to run) that once your account information is entered it adds inferno. (what they really do is wipe out your account of everything!!!)

I knew this was a scam from the get go and I really did enjoy talking with this idiot for a long time... leading him on.... it was very ammusing... but I worry about those who dont know this is a SCAM!

NEVER EVER EVER give out your account information to anyone!!! Even friends... life just works better that way!!

And to that jerk... :rotfl2:

Did that happen IN VMK? So did you report him? That should get him banned for life - no problem!
If you got a PM through the boards, did you forward it to the VMK black hole? I sure would!

No this happened her on the DIS she is sending out PMs to DISers asking for their ID and password so she can see what they have in their inventories!

PLEASE THIS IS A SCAM NEVER EVER GIVE OUT YOUR VMK INFO TO ANYONE!

Please be aware!

Thanks

Mal

Yes, I agree with everyone. This was an obvious scam, but here is some things you should do to teach a scammer a lesson in Dis:

1. pm them back, and ask for their VMK name. After that, report them. The contact page wont ban you for saying dis, and will take action on what happened (The contact page is working slightly faster now that VMK_Bear is back, and helping VMK_Babs answer those messages).

2. Make a reply saying to the person that you will tell everybody that he/she is a scammer (This is the case we have right here)

3. Reply saying the following "What staff member were you?". After that, the person would give an answer that is a staff member that is no more, or quit on you. If he/she gives an answer, just say this:"I just reported this on the contact page, have a nice day."

There are many more, but these are what I suggest if that happens.

that would work if she was doing this in the GAME she is PMing people here on the DIS.

VMK will do nothing about that she is probably not even using her VMK name as her member name here.

Like Mal said... some one PM'd me here, someone with NO POSTS and someone who had registered with the DIS for just minutes before they started PMing me (and I am sure others, but I did tie them up for about 20 minites while they thought they had a sucker on the line...)

I tired my darnest to get their VMK name, to no avaiil... Even telling the twit that I felt this was my big brush with greatness (snicker) meeting a staff member... :rotfl2:

Anyway.. there is and never was a program by VMK that does this sort of thing...... never. Please... please... be careful with your passwords.

Judi... I have sent everything to the powers above, and I am sure they will do all the lovely behind the scenes things to make this person go poof.

Keep in mind that staff has the ability to add things to your inventory WITH OUT your pass word. That's how they give prizes out in their rooms and for competitions. No VMK staff or anyone with any integrity will EVER ask you for your password.

Several DISers have reported this person for this scam. If you received a pm please report this to admin@wdwinfo.com

This person is using several different Alias.

Please be aware.

I got one last night asking if I wanted to trade for her inferno. I'm not going to say the name but this is what she told me:

"hi i have infenro do you have an offer if you don't want ot write it all out then i can just go on your account and say what i have"

And this one is her second message: "if you have vmk i could go on yours and see what you have so i can like tell what i like idk if it's not good"

Obviously, I said I didn't feel comfortable giving away my account information. She joined yesterday and is not sharing her vmk name so I'm positive she is a scammer. Oh the nerve of some people.

Mine was a simple message... and I told her I was willing to trade 10 ice chairs and a snow rug for it... and she jumpped!! By the end of the conversation they just wanted to give me inferno for FREE, just because... wasnt that so sweet of them.

Mal... I forwarded them to you.. should I also forward them to the address above??

Oh and my persons DIS name and her AIM name were very close....

no Laura I have already sent them a copy of your transcript.

Thanks for the Heads up on this.

I got a PM from someone who said almost the exact same thing. I thought she was just joking about the account information, but when she persisted, I was very, very clear what I thought about that. Is there any way to keep this person from using the Dis Boards anymore, besides closing her account? She can just make a new one.

While we will do everything possible to try and stop these scams, the only way to be sure your account is safe is NEVER GIVE ANYONE YOUR ACCOUNT INFORMATION!

Scammers will always be looking for a new way to take your belongings. Please never enter your VMK account information anywhere except for the VMK sign in page and never give it to another person. No matter how much you want what they may be offering you, think first, and realize they are only trying to scam you!

Please report any PM you receive asking for your account information.

Be safe - Be smart :thumbsup2

Just wondering if this member can be removed from the boards...?

I have the highest confidence that Mal and the powers that be are hot on this and are taking all the approprate actions... I would even hedge a bet that they will block the IP addresses and such from these posters... (if that even helps these days)

Another reminder that if someone got to your account, that write staff a message, either to change your password or something. This was happen to a couple of people lately, and everyone was running up to me asking to fix it. i just said write a letter to staff to change your password, hopefully it worked out.
