I read that they are turning the 5th and 6th floor rooms into DVC rooms, is that true? And if so, does that mean less rooms for the non DVC people?

Yes, that's true. That's what all the construction is about at AKL; they're converting some rooms into DVC villas. There will also be a whole new section of the resort (called Kidani Village), with DVC villas, a new pool and restaurant.

The villas in Kidani Village and the current AKL building (also known as Jambo House) aren't only for DVC members; you'll be able to book them through CRO for cash, just as you do with the current AKL rooms.

In fact, since you love staying at AKL, it'd be well worth your while to give DVC a call, or go to their site, and request the information packet on AKV. They sent me a great DVD that describes what the new AKL/AKV will be like. You might find that owning at AKV would be a good choice for your family; you'll have fabulous villas at your favorite resort for the next several decades.

Yes.

And of course it follows that there will be fewer accommodations that aren't DVC. But the villas can always be booked through Disney Reservation Center based on availability just like a regular room.

Really? Now thats good news , in a way. Cool.
So, i call and ask for the AKV DVD package, and they will know what Im talking about? And, do you think they will let AKL normal room people eat at the new restaurant? Im almost sure they will, but wondered if you knew off hand?
So, this AKV, its not the DVC, right? thats something different, right? Sorry about all the questions, this is exciting to me. :thumbsup2

AKV is part of DVC. AKV = Animal Kingdom Villas DVC = Disney Vacation Club.

The new villas at AKV are going to be part of DVC. Go on over to www.disneyvacationclub.com; you'll find some info about AKV and can request the DVD and info package right there.

Also check out the FAQs here to learn about how DVC works:

If this all looks interesting to you, try to find some time on your next vacation to visit the DVC sales center at SSR. They'll take you on a tour of model AKV villas. They're very low pressure, so don't worry that they'll hound you after you take the tour.

Oh, BTW, I'd be absolutely shocked if AKL guests weren't allowed to use the restaurant and pool at Kidani village. At each of the DVC resorts (BCV, BWV, OKW, SSR, VWL), both members and non-members share the same facilities. For instance, folks staying at VWL use the WL restaurants and pool; folks staying at WL are welcome to use the VWL pool.
