Hello all, my 21 year old college son is going to Epcot with some of his friends. Just one day this coming weekend. So how does he get fast passes then that morning? Should he upload MDE app? Not sure what to advise him to do...

He can use his ticket at kiosks at several locations at the park. Or he can enter that ticket’s code into the MDX app and get them that way.

When my family were Disney Noobs, we would book our fastpasses driving/riding over to the park that day. Usually we could get most of the main attractions and we went at the busiest time of the year. However, things might have changed, I know it is harder to get TT, FEA and Soarin. Easiest to get would prob be Soarin then FEA and then TT in my opinion for Tier 1. The rest are pretty easy to get, also, make sure to have him book his fastpasses earlier on in the day, with the last one earlier in the afternoon at about 3 or before so he can get more later on, which I’m pretty sure includes Tier 1 and 2.
