A little disgruntled about my most recent trip to Disneyland. My son is on the spectrum and if it's a bad day, we get a DAS. This allows us to avoid the close contact with others that causes meltdowns (he panics if there's no escape). At toy story mania, they refused to let us in the exit after we waited our hour. Instead they had us wait in the 15+ min fast pass line. This defeats the purpose of the DAS. Thankfully my mom was with me and after begging they let her wait with my son outside the line and only I had to wait in the long line. But what if I was alone? That wouldn't have been an option.

You should've stopped at Guest Relations and relayed what happened. At this point, you can still contact Guest Services and tell them what happened. Not sure what that would do, but they could go back and review the policies with the CM's and it would let you vent your story to them as well.

With issues like this, don't wait until you're back and done with your trip, take care of it as soon as feasibly possible while you are there.

Isn't the das return always the fp line? That is how it's been the time she we have used it (albeit only a few thankfully). That is why they take ten minutes off the return Time (so if the standby is 60 minutes the return time is 50 minutes.)
I don't see how it defeats the purpose of the das which is to minimize but not eliminate waiting in line

are you talking about Disney land or world
its Disneyland.
At WDW almost all attractions have a Fastpass Line and that is where DAS users return at almost every attraction.
Disneyland has not previously had Fastpass for every attraction. They are in the process of adding Fastpass to attractions that didn't previously have it.

This is what is supposed to happen you are supposed to wait your time, and then go through the fast pass. You don't get automatic access. They did nothing wrong.

As others have posted, the DAS is not for 'get on the ride now' access. It's just like another FP, one that you can get at any attraction even if all the FP are gone. When you have two people, plus the person needing extra space, you can buffer the area with one person in front and one in back. Did you try that at all with your son?

Entering through the exit would mean going through the store and back up the stairs. If you mean the former alternative entrance, that was intended for VIP tours only. As PP said, with the addition of an FP queue, the procedure has changed.

I think the confusion is WDW versus DL. WDW has always been set up for the DAS to return via FP, but as Sue mentioned, DL used to have alternate entrances for the return as not all attractions had a FP line. It seems that DL is adding them and moving towards WDW's protocol. It would have been a bit helpful for Disney to socialize the change a bit more so OP was prepared for the change. As we know with our kiddos, change is handled differently. Think of the uproar when DAS was implemented. It wasn't so much the occasional visitor that was impacted, but the ones who had used the old GAC and whose children knew what to expect that had issues. Having to explain why something that was done one way they last several trips now was done another way doesn't always process for our kiddos.

Had OP known about the change from alternate entrance to FP line, she (and her son) could have been better prepared. Now she knows and can be prepared for the next trip.

If you child can't process the change, then why wouldn't you ask when you renew the DAS what has changed? TSMM isn't the first ride to change its return process.

I get it. It happened to us also. THat line is really overwhelming. We have a DAS and wheelchair for my DD so we never really worry about my son (who I am sure is technically on the spectrum). We went after the change and its a really bad fastpass line. And the change was not evident. So we waited our time. Waited at the old entrance. Got told to go to the new entrance and that line was easily an additional 15 minutes. And then we waited 10 for the wheelchair car. THe extra waiting at this ride has always annoyed me (this and indy are the only ones that are almost always longer than just going through the regular line) but my son completely lost it because of how close everyone was to him and the ropes and the change, which caused my DD to lose it. We will be using a fastpass in the future on it rather than DAS. No point in waiting all the extra time if it is going to be a horrible experience in line anyway. This change was yet another reason to not renew our Annual Passes next year.
