Since I'm basically a single mom, I have to buy my own gifts, but I usually find a way to get them to my youngest DDs so they think I don't know. I ordered myself a couple of Keurigs (one for work, one for home) and asked 24yo DD to be on the lookout for 2 boxes from BonTon. I admittedly failed to tell her the contents. The 2 machines showed up on the front porch today and rather than look at the labels closely or make any kind of connection, 24yo announced in front of everyone that my "new shinies" were here. :sad2: I tried to pull the "I don't know what you're talking about", but youngest DDs were on to me. Now I don't know what to do as those were to be my only gifts due to the $$$ spent.

So, thanks BonTon for saving the darned environment. :rolleyes1 And, FYI, in case someone else was hoping to hide the contents. (at least Amazon warns us)

I totally understand your frustration! I got my kids a desktop from Best Buy, and it came yesterday in its original carton. The kids are the ones who saw it on the front porch and brought it in :(

What is Bon Ton? I'm a doofus...

Walmart sent the 32" TV in the loudest box ever! So much for that surprise!

Confused? Why do you have to pretend that you dont buy your own gifts and why did you say you had to give it to your youngest DD but then say your youngest DD figured it out?

Why wouldn't your 24 year old buy you a gift for Xmas?

not sure why I care....lol I just cant actually figure out what hapened by your few sentances so now Im curiosly puzzled.

I didn't get it either. I think maybe the 24 year old messed up and should have pretended she bought the gifts to give to mom instead of saying mom ordered them?

She buys gifts for herself but she was trying to make her oldest daughter get them to the younger daughters and have them think that they were going to surprise mom at Christmas. Since the oldest daughter announced that the gifts were delivered in front of everyone the little ones know mom ordered them. Now mom is upset because she spent all of her christmas budget and has no presents for the little ones to give to her. She should tell the oldest daughter to go out and get a couple of cheap coffee cups or oven mitts so the kids will have something to give her.

What are shinies?? :confused3

I thought the OP wanted her youngest DD to think she got a couple of gifts from Santa. Not really sure either. But really, what are "shinies?"

I ordered a Keurig from Newegg when it was $84, and it arrived today also in a Keurig box. I found it on the front porch when I got home. It's actually my gift from DH for Christmas because I told him that 's what I wanted. So when I found it on sale he said to go ahead and order it. I'll just act surprised in front of the kids on Christmas morning. Good thing I got home earlier than usual today to bring it in before the kids saw it.

Term for fancy expensive items... like your new toys are here (not really toys) ...or when Gollum calls the "ring" his precious that kinda deal.

I never heard of "shinies" either....just something else that confused me lol.;)

Not always. I just got my coffee pot from Bon Ton yesterday (my favorite store) and it was in a box. Actually I've never gotten anything from BonTon or Boscovs that was not inside another box. However, TRU and Walmart both have shipped toys with just a lable on the original box, along with Staples shipping in the original package. BTW--BonTon ships from individual stores. So it would be just that store that your item came from. Sorry your surprise was ruined.

My friend and I usually have things delivered to each other's houses so that the person getting the gift doesn't accidentally see it. :santa:

BonTon is an upscale department store.

Really? Never been to one, but the quality of the clothing my IL's would buy DH and the kids from there was horrible! We don't have one by us, so the stuff ended up goodwilled, but I assumed it was a store a step up from Walmart. Our upscale department stores are along the lines of Nordstroms and Neiman Marcus.

BonTon is not upscale by any means.

How old is your youngest? I'm sure they must know that you buy the gifts for yourself. How else would you get them?

When I first went to the one near us 10 years ago it could easily compete with the smaller Macy's nearby. Top name brands etc. But each year it gets a little less of the bigger name brands and less selection. I never go in anymore. I see ours more on the scale of JCPenny.

I have all my stuff shipped to work now. Target likes to deliver TVs in their original packages too.
