I have selected the disney transportation with the cruise. Now that I have been reading everyone talks about getting there a day early (for obvious reasons). My question is this.. you fly into MCO, but how do you get back and forth from the airport to a hotel to the port and then back to the airport? I have heard town cars, but aren't they really expensive? I could rent a car for the day, but with who and do they take you back and forth.. I know its alot to answer, but I am a bit perplexed... :sad2: Any suggestions would be wonderful.

Second: I dont have a creative bone in my body (except for creating kids).. How do you make the door magnets.. I have no clue how to even start... :p

We always use Tiffany Towncar. Great service to the port. Just find a hotel that will provide a shuttle to the port. DrCavin lists a great site to visit.

If you only come in the evening before and you stay at a hotel near the airport, they will usually have a complimentary shuttle to get you back and forth. You could also stay at the Hyatt MCO and just go right up to the room upon landing in the airport.

Basically, the rental car agencies closet to the port are Avis and Budget. There are others but they are a bit further away from the port.

I always visit each of those agencies websites and price out 2 one-way rentals to see who has the best price at the time. We ususally fly into MCO the day before and pick up our car at either agency at the airport and then drop it off before the cruise at the port location in the morning at about 10:30 or so, after we use the rental to drop off all our luggage at the port. Then hubby drives the rental car back to the agency and takes their shuttle back to port. This way I am already checking us in and he needs to just show his I.D. when he gets to port.

The day we get off the ship I will already have a one way ressie to go from port to MCO. We take the rental shuttle to the agency location and pick up our car, use the rental for the day and then drop it back off at MCO before our flight home.

If can also price out the rental quote for a full week and sometimes it is cheaper than doing 2 one-ways....you would then just park the car at the port while you cruise for $10.00 per day. There are obvioulsy many variations of the above but we have always found it very convenient to have our own rental car. Great place to keep the luggage while we are visting a park or shopping before our flight home and the drive to and from the port is very easy.

Location codes to put in at the rental agency websites:

Avis at the airport is MCO....at the port area if P3F
Budget at the airport is MCO....at the port area it is CC5

Hope this helps!!!

There are about a dozen hotels just off the airport property (5 minutes) that cost half what the Hyatt in the airport charges, as far as I know all offer free shuttles to and from the airport. We stayed at the Sheraton Suites, the shuttle dropped us right off at the Disney cruise buses.

My vacation started the second I stepped off the plane at Orlando and didn't end until I got back on a plane a week later.
Last thing in the world I would want to do is rent a car in a strange town and try to find my way around. I've never done a town car, but if I did I'm miss the orientation video on the Disney bus on the way to the ship.

I made signs for the very first time this last week and had no ideas and being that all of us were new DIS ers and not a computer guru, I used poster board and then bought the magnet strip with sticky on the other side to attach to my poster board. Honestly anything goes.

On our last cruise we stayed at the Hyatt in the airport. It's a bit more expensive even with AAA discount, but worth it. The morning of your cruise you leave your bags outside your room, with the Cruise ship tags attached, and you don't see them again until they arrive in your stateroom on the ship. DCL ships the bags from the hotel to the ship.

All the DCL guests at the Hyatt meet in the lobby and check-in with the DCL reps. They assign you to a bus and then start calling the busses at about 9:30. We waited maybe 20 minutes for them to call our bus. While we waited they were playing "A Bug's Life" in one of the conference rooms. Not having to lug our bags around made that morning very relaxing.

We flew in the day of debarkation on our first cruise, and by dinner time we were all tired and cranky. Never again. Always fly in the day before. Besides you never know weather conditions, or mechanical problems could delay your flight and you could miss the ship :sad2: !

We used magnetic printer paper from Staples for our sign.

We're Hyatt fans also, especially since we had my Mom with us and could get the senior citizen's rate so we only paid about $130 in may of 2004. I originally booked the Hyatt because our plane wasn't scheduled to arrive until around midnight and I wanted the closest bed to the plane. When we ACTUALLY arrived at 3:30 AM, I was really glad the Hyatt in the airport. Unless we come in several days before, we plan to stay at the Hyatt again. And although it may cost a little more, I would do the DCL buses again. It just seems to start the vacation off on a Magical note.
