Hello everyone . . . My son (age 6) and I are looking to go to disney before the summer heat. So probably late April, debating where to stay, last time we went in a bigger group and camped in Disney. But this time it is just the 2 of us, so I am am looking to stay in a disney hotel. I am really debating between a vaule resort or to "go all out" but I realize we proably wont be in ourroom for much of the 7 days anyways

Any advice?

Thank you in advance A :earsgirl: &S :earsboy:

If you think you aren't going to be in your room that much, then why pay for more than the value resorts? If you are going to take a day off from visiting the parks though, the more upscale resorts have a little bit more to do on the grounds than the value resorts. Your 6 year old will love the whimsical look of the value resorts. One thing you might want to check is whether or not they charge more for not having 2 adults in the room. I am not sure about Disney, but as a single mom, I have noticed a lot of other hotels charge 150 to 200% of the regular room charge for not having 2 adults.

thanks for the heads up about the singlee rate part. My son and I do quite a bit of traveling and I end up just pying for him as an adult, and then just ask for a kids ticket once I get there :)
are there that many more perks (that I would use) to a more pricy resort then a value one? I like that the value resorts have cute themes!

I'm a single mom and DD4 and I stay at WDW resorts by ourselves. You won't pay more. WDW rooms are based on a room price, not a per person charge. Since you said you won't be spending much time in your room, I'd do a value resort.

Disney does not charge extra for one adult in a room. I stay there on my own quite often.

Values should be fine if you're not going to hang around the resort much. Pop Century is my favorite. It's newer and doesn't share buses.

I am also taking my DS (7) to WDW / POP April 23-30. Our first trip to Disney, My first time in airport by myself...lots of firsts...Room rate is the same, with one adult. I am so glad I finally booked the trip. I spent night online line checking out prices, and days on the phone with different TAs comparing all of their prices and then my price to theirs. I guess I am obsessive compulsive lol. Now I am just trying to plan our days as I have no clue. I have been to WDW twice before, when I was 6 then 17. Neither trip I planned (parents did)
and I remember certain things but not from a "adult" planning aspect. When you are young, you just sit back and enjoy the ride!
Have a great time! Maybe we will bump into you! We are traveling from NY State. ( Not on spring break though) My DS is in first grade so we can catch up on the homework Friday before we leave, on both flights and on Sun when we get home. ( He never has a lot anyways)

Since you're at WDW for 7 days and it's only the 2 of you, I would suggest doing 4-5 days at Pop, then move to a moderate or deluxe for your last 2-3 days. That way you save money for the days your spending mostly at the parks, then wind down your trip at a "special" resort like CBR or maybe even AKL or WL!!

The great thing about splitting is you feel like you've had 2 vacations in one!! WDW will move your luggage for you so all you do is check out of Pop, head to the parks, then go to your new resort and check in.

I do it all the time and love it!! :cool1:

I went in November and it was just dd4 and I in the room. We didn't get charged extra. My parents were in the next room, but I'm planning a trip just for dd and I in January for her 5th birthday. We stayed at Pop Century in Nov and dd LOVED it. She's still talking about it. We're planning on staying there again.

Sorry about that!!
CBR = Caribbean Beach Resort
AKL = Animal Kingdom Lodge
WL = Wilderness Lodge

Any of the moderates are nice, depends on the themeing you like best. Caribbean Beach has the tropical look, Port Orleans Riverside has the southern mansion elegance or the bayou, PO French Quarter has the New Orleans/Mardi Gras theme and Coronado Springs the southwestern motif.

Any of the deluxes are nice, but you can usually get the best rates at AKL or WL. HTH!!!
