I don't want to borrow because we are going back to back years.

We are going Dec 2020 (the first week). So in order to get those 18 points, can I put a request through David's in advance or what do I do?

Thank you!

David's won't do a point transfer, I don't believe.

You can rent an additional, what, 10 points or something from Disney?
You can buy up to 24 one time use points (OTU) but you can’t do it in advance and you can only use at the 7 month mark - December is tough to book at 7 months

I think its 14 -Correction is is 24 - one time use points that you can purchase from Disney, but it is at 7 months - I could be wrong about the amount, but I do know its 7 months

Another suggestion - and I am not sure if this will work for you, but I almost always do my first night as a cash reservation. But, I do get in late at night, so it just seems like a waste for me to use points that night. I move to my DVC resort on Day 2, and can still enjoy that resort fully. But if you are getting in early on Day 1, this is a less appealing option.

That is traditionally what we do, but my family (DH specifically) doesn't want to have to move.

No, it’s up to 24 OTUPs @$19 apiece.

Well then the answer is clear, call your guide and buy more points :)

But seriously, the options above are about it, and in Dec. OTU points is a Hail Mary

If it were me, I would borrow, then borrow again and keep kicking the can down the road

Okay, thank you everyone!! I guess I will try to scout out a transfer. Of that doesn't work, I'll book the remainder of the trip and hope for OTU for the first night. It is SSR, so that should help a little, I hope, with availability.

I'd go ahead and borrow the 18 points. And the next year borrow whatever is needed to complete that reservation. Use up what you have already paid for and then worry about finding more. :goodvibes

You said you are going back to back years, but are you going back to back years IN DECEMBER?
that is one of the hardest times to get a room with DVC - which, if your next trip is not in December, is another reason to consider borrowing, then try to get the points needed for your next trip via one time points - if that next trip is at a slower/easier time.

I would but we are using 2019 & 2020 points for 2020, and 2021 & 2022 points for 2021.

And yes, back to back in December. We were tempted to do October this year, but that's not really any easier.

Just about anything is easier than December!

Another thing to consider if it is applicable - you might want to do the trips 51 weeks apart (or less), so an AP would cover both as it would be cheaper than 2 sets of park hopper tickets. (Just in case you had not thought of that). If you did, please disregard this message at the beep......

I had thought of that but we have to go in the first week in December (my son will turn 3 December 13). Thanks though!

I wouldn't worry too much about transferring in more points than you need. This will allow you to bank your own points into the following year, which will give you a little buffer for future vacations.

If you do this, make sure you book as many days as you can with current points, and then call into MS and have them reallocate your transferred points for the reservation and then have them add on the last day while you're on the phone with them.

DVC store sends out emails with points available for transfer. So you could sign up for their emails. Many of the transfers are for SSR points in the 100+point range.
