jury duty

We get a notice of jury duty that included the questions which you can now do online. For County court we have a 3 year exemption once you serve. It also allows you to ask for an postponement. I had to do that when it conflicted with an already scheduled vacation. Once you hit 75 ( or in that range ) you can ask to be excused .

I've gotten both the "you have been selected and may be called this specific week" and the " you are in the pool and might be selected during this time period" ones. The first one is local and I'd go to the county courthouse. I'm pretty sure the one with preselection questions here is for district and involves significant travel time to another county and they want to get an idea how many people are flat out not able to do that.

I can't imagine not filling out the form. If I need a hardship dismissal, I need them to know so I don't get called!

I've deferred a few times (for some reason I got called during late pregnancy for one child and early infancy for another) and had to call in daily and listen for my number a few times, but I've never actually stepped foot in the courthouse. The worst is making sub plans for teaching every day and then not having to go in.

I only get a letter in the mail stating the date/time/location of where to show up; there is no questionnaire.

This past time was in the early summer last year. Instead of only holding ~40-50 potential jurors from my last selection, a new addition was done to our courthouse. The jury selection waiting room was expanded to hold 300 (and we still had folks sitting on the floor in the hallway as overflow). Also, the A/C was completely inadequate for a crowd that size; it was horrible.

Does anyone ignore those jury duty forms? The ones they sent for you to fill out before they actually pick you for jury duty? I always fill them out and several months later get called for jury duty. At work today some coworkers say they never fill one out and just throw them away. Does anyone not fill them out?
Yes, here in Texas we get those same forms. But when we lived in Massachusetts, the first we'd hear was when we got called to jury duty. I've gotten those forms twice, about 5-7 years apart. Both times, when they ask if I have a disability that would make it difficult to serve, I say "Yes". Then I don't hear from them for several years. In Texas, you can't be asked to serve after ago 75. Since that's only 2 1/2 years away, and my last form came about a year ago, hopefully I'm all done.
