OK, I have been getting everything in order for our WDW trip which is scheduled for Jan 21 - 25th.... when today in the mail comes a summons for jury duty... on Jan 21!!! :scared1::eek::scared1:

I am thinking I am going to go to the courthouse and explain my situation... all the $$$ already comitted to this trip... I may even offer to come to duty on a different day!

Has this ever happened to anyone here??

I just want to cry!

Generally speaking...If you call and ask for a postponement - they will let you the first (and I believe second) time. After that - they say it is 'mandatory'.

So you should be all set if you haven't asked for one before.

My DH just got a Jury Selection notice for Monday, but when he called they said if the Trial was slated for when we were supposed to be away all he had to do was show them his itinerary and he would be excused. We don't leave until the 22nd so hopefully it won't conflict or he won't get picked. Normally he would be more than willing to do his civic duty but NOT if it conflicts with WDW :lmao:

Happened to me once. I called and explained about my WDW vacation and they rescheduled me for the next jury.

You don't even have to call. There should be a place on the summons for you to pick and choose your day and location up to 1 year away. Every time I've been called I've postponed it and moved it that way.

There was a website on my jury summons and I picked a new day. They let you do it once I think in most cases.

Thanks for the words of encouragement. I plan to print out my travel reservations and visit the court in person. I will be more than happy to reschedule if possible! :thumbsup2

It is my daughter's first trip to WDW...and my last trip was 15 - 20 years or so ago... so it may as well be my first trip too :lmao: So I don't want anything messing it up! but I am more than happy to perform my civic duty... just at a later date please! :rolleyes1

It depends on whether it is state or federal court. If state court, each state has its own rules regarding what consitutes "good cause" to be excused from jury duty. Some judges are more lenient than others and sometimes, it depends on which docket needs jurors and how many jurors have been called for that particular jury pool.

Good luck.

I got my letter saying I had been chosen on Monday for court in May. We leave May 2nd for Disney. I sent them a return letter Tuesday and asked that they reschedule when I am to serve as I will be out of the state. I have a note to call in February if they don't contact me first.

I got a summons last month for this past Tuesday (the 5th). Because I'm a SAHM/WAHM and everyone else was just getting back to work the beginning of the week, I had no one to watch DS had my number been called. So I was able to email in and request postponment to a different date.

Good luck!

I had jury duty a few days before our last trip. You can postpone once in our county, no questions asked. I went, though, and told the judge I had a trip planned with non-refundable airfare, and the lawyers (I was in a jury pool) let me leave. I imagine you won't have much of an issue.
