I've read so many posts regarding the heat and how hot WDW is in May-Sept. Well, I've tried to notice where the posts are from, and many people posting are from the north. I was wanting to ask you experienced Southern Disers, or others familiar with Southern Summers, how WDW Junes compare to other southern states? I know it's MUCH cooler on the FL coasts in June than June in Mississippi. It can easily reach a heat index of 100+ in June in MS. Just wondering about WDW. Thanks!

Florida coasts might be cooler, but inland Florida is hot and humid -- although not quite as humid as, say, the Delta! Still, heat indexes probably won't go higher than the 90s in June. However, the parks are quite crowded, and all of that press of people around you all the time makes it difficult for a breeze to get through and it can feel even hotter.

Hi! I live in Kentucky now, but we lived in Charleston, South Carolina for 10 years, and we also lived in Biloxi, Mississippi for one year (including a very long, hot summer). We are getting ready for our third WDW June trip. I don't think it's noticably hotter in WDW than in the other Southern states - in fact, I think it was more humid in both Biloxi and Charleston. The problem at WDW is that it is also very crowded, and if you don't plan well you can spend a lot of time standing in line in that heat. We have found that if we plan well, we really have no problem with heat at WDW in June. Some things that work for us:

We get to the parks a little before opening time and take advantage of EMH whenever it fits into our plans

We use Fastpass as much as possible

We drink lots of water!

We take an afternoon break to swim and get out of the heat

We go back to the parks in the evening when the heat, and the crowds, start to die down a little

I'm one that whines about the heat in Florida in the summer =)

If you think about it, in Texas, we go from an A/C car, to an A/C house, to an A/C workplace, etc etc. I RARELY am outside during the Texas summer... I don't go to Six Flags, the zoo, or anything else outside here in the summer because I can't handle the heat, and I don't do Disney in the summer either because of the heat.

I don't think it's that DIFFERENT or any HOTTER, it's just that I don't normally stay out in the sun all day at home, i stay in the A/C, so it is a diff situation.

Does that make sense?

It is hot, but it is bareable. I am from Texas. Texas is hot, the only thing that makes it feel hotter sometimes in Florida is the humidity. However, if you drink a lot of water and bring yourself one of those mini-fans, you'll be alright!!!

We live in an area of the country where the weather is similar to WDW, usually actually hotter. Yet when we went to WDW in June, it felt pretty hot to me. I think it was because at home, I'd stay inside. At WDW, I wanted to go outside to walk a lot more. Actually, DH and I discussed this and agreed that, like most people, we felt hot mostly at AK, where there seems to be less air movement, as well as whenever we were in large crowds. However, one advantage DH saw was that golf rates are lowest there in the summer and the heat of golfing in June didn't bother him at all.

I'm from the delta land of Mississippi, and I have to say, it was not as bad as I expected last July. I was prepared for the worst, and it was indeed hot, but not as humid as I thought it might be. Where I live, at night we can barely stand to go outside in the evenings due to the constant humidity. We stayed at the campground, so were outside in the evenings at the campfire program, pool and in the golf cart. I thought it was much less humid and actually enjoyable. We just made sure to stay hydrated and took bandanas to wet as per the instructions on this board. We were fine, though the air conditioning in the cabin surely felt great about midday!!

Thanks for the great replies everyone! It's good to hear that the heat is comparable, and like several said, it has a lot to do with how much you stay indoors during the summer. We spend quite a lot of time at the pool and outdoors, so I'm not sure how the children will be. DH spends most of his time indoors, so he may have a harder time with the heat. And he hates crowds..so maybe I should go ahead and buy a grumpy badge? Heheee. Really, I know he's going because it's something that I want for the children - he's such a Prince Charming!

Great advice on taking the afternoon break. We may just do that. I've tried to schedule our busiest times for mornings, with late lunches and most of the indoor shows during the lunch hours. Hopefully we'll be able to beat the heat! I'm still looking for those bandana-type neck coolers (the gel filled ones that you store in the fridge overnight). Anyone know where to get those? Thanks again.

I found the bandana neck coolers at Wal Mart in the sporting goods section. I think they were around $2 apiece.

I also live very close to the 'Delta'. It is really not that bad as long as you plan.(but maybe I'm used to it since I've lived in MS all my life. LOL) We like to use the fan/misters that you can get from walmart. Also, wear light colored cotton clothes, tennis shoes with thick socks, and sunscreen. And the best advice- Go back to the Resort after lunch for a swim AND nap!!!!!
