I have stayed at the Disneyland hotel many times but never the Grand. Does anyone know if the DL pool will be done in June? We plan to go June 21-25. How are the pools at the GCH? We have a 6 and 3 year old (neither can swim). I have never stayed at the Grand but my Mom is coming on this trip and treating us. Unfortunately my hubby can't come and she said we can stay at either. We are lucky as we can now get a senior discount which helps. We will probably spend most afternoons back at the pool and hotel so I am just trying to figure out which one would be best for us. I never have had an issue with the distance of DL hotel ( I know Grand is closer) so that is not a factor for us. Any input? Which would be best for my kids and my mom ( she's 71 but looks and acts like she is 50 :)
Thanks All

We like the Disneyland Hotel too, but not for this summer. One pool will be open, but there will still be all kinds of construction going on. If your mom says pick either one--then by all means pick the GC! I really think that the Grand has a better pool area as well. It will be more comfortable for your mom to have a nice lounge chair to relax in there. The lounges at DH just aren't that great, and the pool will be crazy because one will be shut down.

You will love the shorter walk as well.

Have a great time!:wizard:

We just returned from our first stay at GCH after staying many times at DLH. The pools at the Grand are fabulous! They have 3 pools and 2 hot tubs. One pool has a small slide for smaller kids and a larger slide for bigger kids (or adults!)
You will absolutely love the Grand!

We also stayed at the Grand last December. My boys thought they wouldn't like it as much as the DLH pool but they were wrong. They loved it. They were six and seven at the time. Our then 18 month old loved it too. They really want to go back here now more than the DLH. Also, it really is nice to be closer with little ones IMO.

We were at DLH last month. The Neverland pool is open and it's really fantastic for kids. They have a small waterslide (just few feet long) that is perfect for kids. Plus the neverland pirate ship which my boys thought were often. One thing to know, at any of the hotel pools (I believe, but for sure at DLH) you can borrow life jackets for your kids for free. Huge perk in my book when you have kids that are young and not great swimmers!

DL will have the neverland pool open. It may have the new pool open. That is how it is planned. I'm sure DLh will have the best pools because of the new slides.

Still if you have the chance to stay somewhere different. I would take it.

Thanks for all the input! We booked today at the Grand I am really excited this will probably be our 1 and only stay since it is SO expensive but nevertheless we are thrilled. Thanks everyone for all the info and suggestions!!

Are you saying that the new pool at the Disneyland Hotel (the one with the monorail themeing and big slide) will be open this June? For some reason I thought it was going to be ready next summer (summer 2012). Everything I have read is that the water play area and new restaurants will be open this summer, but the big Peter Pan pool with the slides won't be finished till next summer. Is this incorrect?

I asked about that today. They said the existing pool is still open and should still be available in June for our visit. The new pool area will not be completed until 2012 from what I was told today. They also did mention if the DLH pool does close use of the GCH pool will be open to all DLH guests if anyone wanted to know.

That is what I thought. We were just there in November, and although we typically stay at DLH once or twice a year--I don't think I want to stay there this summer with the pool like that. It was very bad in November. To think they charged so much money for a a premium pool view (of dump trucks, tarps, earth movers, and piles of rubble) was a bit disappointing to say the least. Everyone here knows how much I love this hotel, but this left a very bad impression on us. I know I will love it again, but not until this pool reno is done. We always talk about using the GC pool when staying at the DLH, but it just seems strange to me, and we never have done it.
