First time posting on this board so hi!

Just wanting a little help really. We are going to WDW in 2012 and we're in the process of trying to get the in laws to agree to go in June rather than September as our youngest will be starting school that year so really don't want him to miss his first few settling in weeks! Plus I'm not even sure if the school will kick up a stink yet ~ not knowing where he's going to be going as even his elder sister doesn't start til 2011! Even in June we'll have to take DD out of school (reception class) which isn't ideal but at least it'll be towards the end of the school year.

DHs family have been 6 times ~ everytime in September (plus SIL a 7th time in November I think!) so are pretty stuck in their ways and not too keen on the idea of going at any other time!

Could anyone whos been in both give me a few comparisons to go back to them with! and for me too if anyone thinks September would be a better idea than June! Price wise as far as I can tell seem to pretty similar, is that correct? ~ EDITED ~ Just checked and June seems cheaper if anything.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Many thanks in advance!

Welcome to UKTP, Rowan :goodvibes.

I can understand why you'd be reluctant for your son to miss his first couple of weeks at school, as I imagine that's when a lot of relationships are established. I don't suppose it would be good for him to arrive as the "new kid" once everyone else has been through that bedding-in period.

Have you considered going during October half term, taking him out for one of the weeks either side? I think that would be a much better compromise for the in-laws as it will be similar to September in terms of crowds and weather. June, on the other hand, is likely to be busy, hot and wet. :o

As a parent myself, I'm happy to take my kids out of school time for a holiday and am doing so again this May, but I wouldn't in September with the new school year. There is too much going on in school when the new year starts.

septemeber is, in my thoughts, a better time, its less crowded, cuz everyone is back at work or at school..

Thanks for your replies and yes you've both hit the nail on the head about taking leave in September. That's my point entirely. It'd be bad enough at anytime let alone in his first year! I was the new kid at school several times so know how it feels! ~ possibly why I am dead set against going then and why the OH and his family don't really understand.

The October idea may work but I'm just not sure if we could afford to go within the school hols price hikes. End of May/early june might also be a possibility if the price is ok. Shall do a check for this year and see how it compares though thank you!

Any other thoughts still greatly appreciated!! :)

I will preface this by saying I am going in June, and am really looking forward to it! However I also went last September and had a fabulous time (we were lucky with the lack of rain!)

However, I would not be going in June if there were any other date I could go. American schools are out, so it is much more crowded than September, plus it will be hotter.

On the other hand, with good trip planning June isn't a bad idea. We are lucky with out 5 hour time difference, it means whilst Americans are still sound asleep we are on the bus to the park at rope drop! Use this to your advantage, get there at the beginning of the day, stay till mid day to get in the rides you want, then go back to the hotel for a nap/swim/ cool down. Then go back in the evening for dinner and to experience more fun! This keeps you out of the heat of the day, but means you can get a lot done!

So yes, I would say September is the slightly better option for crowds, but if you plan wisely, then it is not a deal breaker.

Hope this helps, and have a great trip!

i never had a problem taking my kids out of school to go on holiday, however would NEVER have taken them out at the beginning of the school year...
i think it's terribly unfair to them to begin the school year on the wrong foot so to speak...

so even if september might be better in terms of crowds (not necessarily true any more given free dining), i would still not take the kids out at the very beginning of the school year...

i'm sorry that it might create a problem with your in laws if you don't go along with their desires for a september trip......in law relations can sometimes be difficult.... (speaking from experience ;) )

i agree with the october option...i've been in june, september and october and of the 3, i like october best!!

Thank you all! The "hmmmmms" sounded a little more positive when we suggested October! We offered another suggestion of August (knowing that'd be a no!! apparently they did go once in August when Chris was at school and never again!! lol) and so I'm keeping my fingers crossed they'll be ok with October now! and keeping my toes crossed that the prices wouldn't shoot up too horrendously as otherwise we won't be able to afford the school holidays!

and Miss Mo... June would be sooner but if we're not going til October we may be able to squeeze in a teensy wincey little trip to DLP again next year!! :woohoo:

Thanks for all your help! will be back when the prices come out next Spring and we can start planning!! :yay:

September is cheaper ,cooler and less busy.I got flights for £199 a few years back.Even some food kiosks were closed as this is Disney low season. No queueing on many rides and they closed fast passes, not needed,

We went for the last 2 weeks September 2006 and it was great. The queues were low and the weather was hot but not too humid apart from one afternoon when it was stiffling. We were worried about it being the rainy season but it only rained one afternoon and we were at blizzard beach. We all had to take cover from the thunder and llightening, it was quite exciting!
One thing that puts me off of ever going in September again is the swarm of love bugs...yuck
We are trying October next year after reading some great advice about it plus we want to be there for Halloween!
Have a great time whtever you decide :goodvibes

I am planning to go in september 2011 or 2012 depnding on how my saving goes! but i will be going the last week of august and first two weeks of september so im back just in time for the start of university term :)

We always go in September. Wonderful, very warm, crowds very low.

We have taken my daughter out of primary school every time. Never caused a problem. We book so she is back a couple of weeks, then go. At that age, two weeks out means nothing in the grand scheme of things. The teachers don't tend to mind, they set her some workand believe that travel broadens the mind.

September 2011 - I will do it again, without a doubt in my mind. When she gets to Secondary school, we'll go in the holidays as that's when time away can cause problems.
