OK, we are sort of settled in now.
I saw firsthand why some people hate Airtran. They oversold our flight, and they were asking people to give up their seats in exchange for a voucher for free round trip airfare. BUT the flight they were offering wasn't getting to Dallas until midnight. Um, no thanks! They were telling people who booked MONTHS ago that they had no seats. It was tense.
We went ahead and upgraded to business class at the airport. That was stupid, because we had already paid for our bags at AKL. Airtran agrees we are entitled to a refund, but they are telling us BAGS owes us, not Airtran. Right. I see a credit card dispute in our future.
Well, in business class the seats are in pairs. The people behind us had 3 little (age 6 and under) kids. I had an empty seat next to me. Guess who belonged in that seat? One of those little kids. That did NOT make me happy. But the kid pitched a fit so the mom ended up sitting in his seat next to me for take-off, then she moved back to the row behind me and held one of them in her lap the whole flight. Which was FINE with me! I was a bit peeved that people were upgraded for free in the end because the plane was oversold. Not only did I pay for the upgrade, I paid for the damn bags and it is going to be a big fight to get that money back.
We got back to the car and it was dead. I mean D E A D. Well, you know, it's only 100 degrees. Why don't we sit in remote parking and call
AAA? Luckily the guy arrived quickly and the car started right up after a jump. I think we left one of the map lights on the whole time we were gone. I must have turned it on, then somebody opened the car door. Those lights are on if a door is open, and I didn't notice that it stayed on after we unloaded everything. Perhaps it would be a better idea not to leave when it is still dark outside!
