I am trying to decide when would be a better time to go back to Disney World for what will probably be our last trip forever, or at least for another four to five years.

my husband suggested waiting until 2021 thinking that more of the construction would be done for the 50th celebration. of the things being constructed the only things really of interest to us would be the Mary Poppins attraction and some of the other upgrades being done to Epcot.

On the other hand I am wondering just how badly prices are going to be going up between now and then for the 50th. I'm thinking that a June 2020 trip might be quite a bit cheaper than June 2021. I also wonder if the 50th will draw bigger crowds than will see this coming June.

Thoughts? What would you choose?

I hate waiting more than maybe 4-6 months in between trips so I am probably not the best person to ask. I think it's a pretty safe bet that costs will increase from year to year and you should count on the prices in 2021 being more than in 2020, how much of course nobody knows. Outside of cost increases and the fact that you aren't really interested in what is under construction right now, I don't think it really makes a big difference when you go and really is just your personal preference. Crowds will always be there. If it were me, I'd plan for a trip sooner than later.

If it's last trip ever, push it off to 2021.

If you think there's a chance of you ever returning, go in 2020.

I am postponing trip #6 from June of 2020 to June of 2021. We just want to give them an extra year to get as much as more time to get as much done. Well that and the girls have told me that want to stay at The Poly and I don't go in debt for these trips so I gives me a extra year to pay for everthing.

Man, I'd go once a month if we could...maybe skipping a summer month or two. Is it just you and hubby? Could you go in between those two choices, in (early) December 2020? A June 2021 trip gives you plenty of time to save and plan though. If staying on site, you can book the room part of your reservation 499 days out! That has been really helpful for our upcoming trip. We just got back this month and the construction, especially at Epcot, really does change ambiance. Have a great trip, no matter when you decide to go!

No, our kids will be going, too. Next summer they'll be 13 & 10. We'll be staying on site at All Star Movies. Possibly doing the dining plan *groan*. I tried to tell DH it's a waste of money for us since we can eat cheaper out of pocket, but I think he feels like if we're staying on site, we might as well do the "all immersive, don't have to think about it" experience. Summer is the only time we can go due to DH's teaching schedule.

Just my opinion, but I would say go in June 2020. Sure, the 50th may bring some construction completions, but there's always going to some construction or ride refurbs or something that you could wait to be finished. So if you had to wait for everything to be finished, then you would never go. Just go next year, don't worry about missing out on anything, and have fun.

There's always a chance, but I'm thinking realistically it would be several years.

I'd be inclined to push it off to 2021, you'll get a more complete park or at least one that's less of a construction zone (hopefully). I get that there's always construction, but I would hope that more of the Epcot refurb would be closer to being done by then.

Just curious, regardless of whether it's 2020 or 2021 why would it be your last trip ever :confused3? Do you only go for your children's sake? I would go in 2020. Who wants to wait 1.5 years :sad2:

Basically, yes. I enjoy Disney, but it's not a trip DH and I would ever take just for ourselves. We prefer other things. And as our children get older, we would prefer to take them other places, see more of the "real" world etc...

You might want to check what discounts will be offered for 2020. Just a guess, but I imagine Disney will probably offer free dining and other discounts to attract business, as most people will be waiting for Tron and other new rides in 2021.

We’re going March 2020 even though it might be years before we’ll be back. We’ve never been particularly interested in rushing in to see new stuff anyway, especially if it means bigger crowds, so waiting until 2021 holds no appeal. In the meantime, we’ll still struggle to get in everything we want to do this next trip and be perfectly happy.

I was thinking this, too. That maybe there'll be discounts, lower crowds as most people will wait?

Then go in 2020, when they're younger. LEAST favorite Disney trip was with a surly 14 year old. Honestly, though, I have more fun taking the kids now, as adults!

Oh no! They'll be adults on the Dining Plan. Please convince him it's not worth it!! We love the Dining Plan, but not for those age groups. Unless you are doing a character meal everyday...then I see things his way. Keep your eye out for 2020 discounts...if you reserve and start planning a 2021 trip, you can cancel it if you end up going in 2020. Just don't book any non-refundable things this early.

Yes and for our daughter definitely not worth it as she has a tiny appetite. She doesn't even eat half of a kid's meal, let alone an adult meal.
