Hello all! I am looking for some advice on when to plan my wife and i’s First Disneyland vacation. We are Disneyworld regulars and have been itching to make the trip to check out Disneyland. With all of the construction taking place at DW, we were thinking the next few years would be a good time to skip DW and head to California. Our only hold up is the new Pixar neighborhoods. Since this is a rarity to visit Disneyland we wanted to see it with some of its main attractions open (I.e. incredicoaster). Therefore we were not sure wether to visit in June or 2018 or June 2019. This is the only time we are able to vacation as we are both teachers. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks in advance!!

It depends on what your interested in...
If you're able to go late July or early August 2018 I think Pixar Neighborhood is to be complete by then.
If you wait for 2019, Starwars might be open.

Construction either way. Pixar celebration is this upcoming year so there will be a lot of Pixar everywhere. (No word on Coaster re-opening yet - I think but I've been away from the boards the last couple weeks.) They're just re-theming CA Screamin for that. The actual new ride for the area will start construction "in the future" so that's not remotely soon. The neighborhoods could be cool, permanent meet n great areas or cheap shims of stuff put up and called good enough. Too early to know at this point.

This summer a chunk of the end of DtD goes under multi-year construction for the new hotel. 2020 rumored completion date there, impact to monorail unknown but could be large because the station is being incorporated into the hotel. And our monorail is SWEET out here, WDW's is old and not at all an integral part of the park like our monorail is to our Tomorrowland. Totally different.

SWL will- hahaha, SHOULD open 2019, impact on parks unknown. Looks like CA might open first & the fear is it will lead to MASSIVE crowds & corresponding price hikes. Marvel land is on the long term schedule for DCA with the thinking being it's the next project after SWL.

So: construction is unavoidable on both coasts. (But we will NOT have a Hollywood Studios half-a-park situation on our hands at anytime.)

Personally I'd go before SWL (so 2018) as my expectations for the Pixar re-work is very low, but I'm happy to be wrong! (That year of Frozen was scarring a few years back...) (IMHO: for goodness sakes y'all are getting Pixar Land! That's gonna be much cooler, we're just re-theming an old area of the park that has needed re-theming since the day it opened.)

You honestly won’t miss much if incredicoaster isn’t opened. It’s gotten jarring and rattly. Or maybe it’s me. 10 years ago it was one of my faves. Now I might go once a trip. Go 2018 IMO. Before the SWL madness.
