June 18, 2011 - 11 Night Mediterranean Sailing from Barcelona

We have until 90 days out to make any more changes without penalty, right? I'm wondering if a kids sail free offer will come around.....Why were some people losing their OBCs with the change? Is this because Disney says the GTY rooms can't be combined with any other discounts?

I called DCL a couple of days ago and the GTY room prices are for new bookings only. I was told I'd have to cancel my existing booking and re-book. I asked about our OBC and was told we would lose it. If anyone finds out otherwise, please let me know. I'd love to do the verandah GTY, but don't want to forfeit our OBC.

Hi all,
Thanks for the GTY info, we saved $250 and upgraded to the verandah stateroom. We are sooo excited for this cruise, looking forward to meeting new friends on the ship before sailing!

woooo hooooo. congratulations :cool1::cool1::cool1:

I am still waiting in hope that they will release a cast member discount. I keep calling but nothing yet :confused3 Trouble is, I don;t know if they will apply a new rate (if there is one ever) after I have paid the full balance :confused3

CM showed up today. I called today and cancelled my previous booking and changed it to the "pixie dust rate"! :cool1: They only have verandahs remaining though.

Any one planning on doing the different ports on your own

would love to do all the disney ones but with what they are charging don't think we can do them all
thinking maybe Rome and Pompeii with them

On the last cruise thread meet I done here on the boards we posted a question a week , that way we all got to know each other a bit before the cruise

We have never been to Europe, so we don't want to try anything on our own. So, we are doing all Disney excursions. I'am trying to not do to many all day ones. I do want to enjoy the ship and not come back and collapse in my stateroom.

we will probably do most ports on our own. We have been to a few of the ports before and so can probably figure our own way around fairly easily.

Naples, Rome & Malta will definitely be on our own. Not sure of Palermo yet with it being a new addition. If anything, we may do a tour in Villefranche (spelling??)

We will probably do Rome, Florence/Pisa and Villefranche with DCL and Naples with a private tour guide. The rest of the ports we'll do on our own. Last year, when we cruised the Baltic, we did all of the ports on our own except St. Petersburg, and it worked out just fine. All you really need is a good map and a lot of nerve!

We're planning on tours on our own. My dd (5) is a little unpredictable so I don't want to be in the middle of a DCL tour with a melt down. We want to go at our own pace.

We're planning to Disney excursions for most of the ports--assuming we can get them. The two big exceptions are Naples (private tour with CalFan and her family) and Rome (which we will probably also do a private tour, possibly with Calfan). If we have any repeat Med cruisers on the list, I might want to pick their brain for excursions. I wish there was a nice centralized place where you could read excursion reviews.

Wow...looks like 7 families are staying at Casp74 pre-cruise. Would be cool to plan a get-together like maybe tapas and drinks one night to meet everyone.

Jen

It would be great to get together and meet all of the families staying at the Casp74 apartments pre-cruise. To all the folks staying there: have any of you made arrangements to get from the airport to Casp74 and/or from Casp74to the port? I'm wondering if advance arrangements are a good idea or if it will be fine just to rely on cabs.

Thanks,

Laura

We plan to visit the ports on our own also. I read Disneyfalcon's trip report and became inspired to try it. We have no small children in our group. My 16 year old son and I are up for the challenge. My parents are along and I think they are in with us as well.
My only worry is getting DS to Florence and back without missing the ship.:rotfl:

I have booked private tours for the 3 cities in Italy. We'll do the DCL tours in the other ports, but probibly just walk around the port area in France.

I have a question, can some one give me an approximate size for an FE? I am planning on making my own but need some dimensions. There is alot of fun fabric out there, so I thought it would be a fun way for my daughters and I to get ready for the cruise.

Thanks,
Bonnie

Hi Scubabonk - I measured our Fish Extender (which I bought online, but probably could have made myself). It is 8" wide and 21" deep. We have three pockets - one for me/DH, one for each of two children. Hope that helps. I'd post a picture, but don't know how! Let me know if you need more info.

Also, and this is for anyone who plans on participating in the FE exchange, remember to bring a zip-tie to secure your Fish Extender to the fish holder. On our last cruise, a family down the hall had theirs stolen. They were heartbroken because they had had it for 10 years!

Hey everyone, for those Philly/New York people who haven't booked their plane tickets yet I just booked a non-stop on Delta from Jfk at 6pm on Thurs 6/16 coming back on the 29th at 11:20 for $908 round trip! They still have the fare available. I would have preferrred to leave out of philly but we'll deal with the hassle for that price.

Laura (Calfan) - We are staying at Casp74. We are arriving on 6/16, so will take a taxi from the airport to the hotel. I was going to contact the folks at Casp74 and see what they recommend for everyone going from the hotel to the port on 6/18. I'll let you know what I find out.
