June 16, 2007 MedHead Cruisers

I think at this time we are going to do Disney next summer and then again in October. But, we would love to go to Alaska in 2009. So keep me posted.

I was talking with Rachel, the cruise director and a couple of other CM's on the Med cruise and they said the reason Disney hasn't gone to Alaska is because the ship isn't designed to close the upper deck. In Alaska you have to dome the upper deck as it is too cold outside. So I doubt the Magic will be heading to Alaska in 09.

Marie

Maybe one of the new ships? :scratchin

I've heard that the new ships are too wide to go thru the Panama Canal - although I've also heard the Panama Canal may be widened to accomodate all the large cruise ships and super tankers - which means a ship would petty much need to stay on one coast or another.

My wish is that when the first new ship comes out they swap it out with the Magic or Wonder, and then do an overhaul on the Magic/Wonder that would include enclosing the Pool areas. I don't know if this is feasibly possible, but I can dream...

When I cruised Alaska the ship had an enclosed pool, but also had 2 outdoor jacuzzis at the back of the ship. I remember sitting in the jacuzzis as we cruised the inside passage, and it was awesome!

I don't think disney will be doing alaska in 2009 either. I wonder where they will be going. Last time after the mexico, they stayed in the caribbean. I did book a dummy date and if the alaska could be a good deal, then we might do 2. Maybe we'll do an xmas cruise on disney in 2009. That sounds good.
hmmmm

Christmas on the Magic. Sigh. That sounds wonderful.

When do the new ships come out? I mean, they'll have to release where they're sailing before they come out. I am anxious to know. Everyone I talked to on the ship seemed to hint that there would be a ship permanently in the Med. It could be the Magic or the Wonder though. I like your dream though, that would be nice.

Now I'm rethinking my xmas and thinking maybe thanksgiving 2008...I don't know if I can swing all of this. But spending my 40th birthday on the magic seems like fun! I still feel 18..and really still act it...just don't look it hahahaha

The new ships won't be out until 2011 and 2012. But I think I've got this figured out...
After Magic goes back to the shipyard in Italy for a domed pool area, they move her to Rome. She spends the summer doing Med cruises. She alternates 11 day cruises to Italy, Greece, Turkey, Cyprus, and Malta with 10 day cruises to Italy, Sardinia, Sicily, and France. The dome will allow her to stay in the Med through her Thanksgiving cruise. Then she does a transatlantic back to Cape Canaveral followed by (wait for it)....

A panama canal cruise ending in LA. She then does her Christmas and New Years sailings out of LA. She stays in LA until June, and then spends the next summer in Alaska. Then Mexico for the fall/winter/early spring before heading back through the canal, then transatlantic, then med cruises again.

Can you imagine...someone with the time and money could actually stay on the ship for 49 days and never repeat an itinerary!!

Too bad I have absolutely no say in the matter:sad1:

I like the way you think wendy...now email that to the folks in charge so they can get your ideas happening! :)

Wendy,
Sounds like a great plan. I miss the magic. We were going to go in October on the magic but since we are going to Hawaii in a week we had to post poste the trip. I am so sad. So I now need to wait till next July.
My husband new I was missing Disney so he got up this morning and said lets leave for Disneyland in 30 minutes. We could stay until Monday morning and come back early Monday. I turned him down. I have to fly to Kansas on Tuesday so I had to get my laundry done and get packed.
Oh well,
Kathy

Steph,
When I turned 40, I too felt like I had just graduated high school. Now, a short 4 years later, I've somehow fallen apart. My knees are bad, I've developed allergies, oh the bliss of 'the change'. Savour youth!

Have a great weekend everyone!

So then we might have enough people for a discount. :scratchin

We need a few more, come on, people!

Tell me more about this brother...

We would be:

Disney Lover Linda (maybe 5)

Yeah, Steph what about this brother.... ;) Gees 30yo! Ah, too bad!

Sue

Wendy,

That would be great! And since with your name you have that great relationship with Peter Pan, maybe Disney would listen to you.

All,

I agree that the Magic & Wonder's ship design is probably why they haven't done Alaska. We were hoping one of the new ships would be designed to go to Alaska. Of course that idea of redesigning the Magic or Wonder for Alaska would be great!

Lauren,

How's the new job doing? Are you homesick I see your you on here alot. You know you can always find someone here to talk to. I see you went out on a date! (Why do I wonder when your young & cute!)

We went on The Magic Xmas Cruise 2005. That was WONDERFUL! The ship is decorated beautifully & on Christmas morning Mrs. Clause reads stories to all the children (or was that Christmas Eve, oh well it was great!)

It would be great to have the Medhead reunion Cruise!

 Your better than me I would have dropped the laundry in a minute to go to Disneyland! It seems I'm always doing laundry. :laundy:

Sue

I can see by all my postings that I'm (excuse me we don't say this but) BORED :bored: @ work today. The ICU is closed so I'm STUCK inside watching the telemetry monitors! Oh well I get paid to do this!

I'd still rather be on the Magic!

Sue

Will try and persuade daughters and friends to join us as well. Did find a trip last year called Fire and Ice and that was a week in Alaska and the following week cruising around Hawaii. That sounded like a great combination to me. think it was Norwegian Cruise Line and sounded quite reasonable but do not know much about them.

think it went from LA but maybe wrong. Be great if we could negotiate a discount too - always up for saving a bit of money.

Lauren,

I'll admit that I've been very homesick and spending way too much time on here. I don't know if y'all ever go on the community board but I hang out on the "clique" threads over there. My sister is in Kentucky for the next 4 days at a wedding and I still don't really know anyone here so I'm very lonely! I've been spending a lot of time on the phone with anyone and everyone who will talk to me. I'm not the kind of person who likes to be alone for more than a few hours.

The job has been good. It's hard work but I've loved it. Actually for the first few days I had to be a culinary shadow which was basically like the chef's aide. I just did whatever he needed like chopping, putting things in and out of the oven, restocking the buffet, and answering people's questions. I liked that job more than hostess but hostess still has some time to grow on me.

And when did I go out on a date? I missed that.

Will try and persuade daughters and friends to join us as well. Did find a trip last year called Fire and Ice and that was a week in Alaska and the following week cruising around Hawaii. Okay, I LOVE this idea. I have always wanted to go to Hawaii and somehow it just seems like more of a vacation if you get a chance to go to the beach or be in the sun rather than just seeing snow and ice. :rotfl:

Lauren,

You are now a sous chef! yeah, I know but maybe someday. Good Luck! Okay keeper of the List that fire & ice sounds too good to be true, but I would go for it. Yeah, my DB has no choice we are going the day before!

Sue

P.S. I'm still bored @ work, but luckily alot of people have been bored too & came to visit me. Even my Dnephew brought my Dniece into visit, I REALLY love her.

Boy oh boy...busy busy...or in sue's case..not so much.
I have been asked to get the cabin requirements....so how many cabins does each person need. It's just for estimating purposes. No one is locked into anything, but it helps.
Don't need to know what kind of cabin, just how many per disname. Also, does anyone have a preference of departure city? San Francisco, LA, Seattle, Vancouver etc...
Lauren..hope you find friends. You have a great personality, so it shouldn't be too long before you're busy.
Sue..try not to be so bored! I can't believe you're working on a sunday.
Have a good day
Steph

We will need 2 cabins if my nephews go with us. Well I finally got to go home. Tomorrow if the ICU is still closed I can take call - YES!

Yes, Steph we work weekends because the hospital is opened 24/7 (even though the ICU can be closed it can still open if needed.)

Boy this is EXCITING I hope Disney does go, if not it's still fun thinking about it.

Sue

Steph,

Count me in for two rooms, I plan on bringing my other DS to this cruise and he'll probably want to bring a GF or a buddy.
