June 16, 2007 MedHead Cruisers

HI Carol

I thought it might be fun to see when everyone is coming in and where they are staying--airlines also? What do yall think?

We can update the website with the info:

wonder-Leaving NC 6/15 and arriving in Barcelona on 6/16(hopefully no delays!!!!) We booked air through Disney and will not know our flight times until the 1st of May....the lady seemed surprised when I said that is short notice to plan anything for the day we arrive....she said that gives you a whole month....but all the excursions for Barcelona are gone except for 2 when I checked last night...so I guess we will book something on our own when we find out our times!!!

myself & DH DD-11(almost 12)....DD-7 & DD-6

By the way Brian was going to put the MedHead Cruisers II shirts back up tonight around 6 pm central time....if anyone is interested in ordering one...this was the one with the pirate....He said it will probably stay up all night and they won't kill it until tomorrow morning!!!

Disney Fans, we are staying 3 nights pre-cruise, so I didn't care if we were close to the ship. The Hispanos 7 Suiza is near the Sagrada Familia - not super close to the ship, but close enough to the city center to sightsee pretty easily. We booked a 2 bedroom "apartment" for just over $300/nt. Post cruise, we are spending 1 night at the Best Western I mentioned. I called the 800# and they offered me a AAA discount. I can't remember exactly, but I think I'm paying somewhere around $350/nt - not bad for all 4 of us when a lot of people have to book 2 rooms. Good luck!

Earpiemom, Relax, and take a deep breath! Seven weeks is PLENTY of time to plan. Princess Jasmine (Lauren) has created a binder that I'm sure she will share with you for a small fee - HA! (Yes, PJ, I'm picking on you) Seriously though, planning this trip has been a blast. Hope the trip is as fun as the planning has been! Also, I feel similarly about the $$ required for this trip. About a month ago, my husband said to me "Jodie, we are not rich. Can you please stop acting like we are??" I'm becoming a bit of a travelaholic. I need to stop so that my kids can eventually go to college!!!!!!!!!!

Can't wait till June. -Jodie

Thanks again for you help!!:goodvibes

Hi Disney Fans - We have a 5 going on 6 year old daughter and a 8 going on 9year old son. My daughter is very excited about meeting other kids on the cruise. She is a bit of a social butterfly once she gets over her initial shyness.

Hope you can make the cruise.

Hey that is nice that your children are also around the same age. My 7 going on 15!LOL He loves kids that are his age or older!!
My youngest loves hanging our with everyone!!LOL
Hope we can go on this trip!!!!:cloud9:

Hey??

To those of you that live in TX! Thats where we live! We live in Allen, a sub just 30 min. north of Dallas. How far are you all from Dallas?

How did you all do on Air fare? We are working on it still and some of it on hold but want to make sure we can work, air, hotel, everything out for sure!;)

Don't have time to read back all the posts right now, but just wanted to respond to a few.

I think it will be a small fee for others and more than a small fee if you want to use it. BWAHAHA!
PJ, can you fill me in on the transportation you arranged from the airport to Hispanos 7 Suiza? We were just planning on taking a cab. Is it cheaper to go through the hotel?

-Jodie
We booked through the hotel and they use a company called Calipodes. They will be waiting for us for up to 45 minutes outside of the airport and then they guarantee an English speaking driver to take us to the hotel although my sister was a Spanish major so that shouldn't be a problem. It is 100 euros. There are 5 of us and all our luggage so we would have needed at least 2 cabs.

You are too funny! Unfortunately, I don't have any money left after paying for this trip to forward you the "consultation fee" - ha ha! (you need to be a travel agent)!!

I think I might just take my chances with a cab. The hotel website says that cabs run about 21 Euros from the airport to the hotel. Hopefully all 4 of us can fit with all our junk.

I just e-mailed the hotel about checking in early - haven't heard back from them yet. Have you asked them about that yet?

-Jodie

This was posted by sweetsue on the May 26th thread. I thought it had some good advice.

As of yesterday,

Exchange rates posted on MSN Money were $1.34 per Euro for yesterday. Expect to pay much more than that when you really exchange money. This is more of a "commodity" rate used for trading similar to stock. It's also close to what the bank exchange rate would be if you used a charge card. To compare, the cheapest I could buy Euros was at $1.4128 per Euro. This was through a military bank. Through regular banking it was closer to $1.44 per Euro.

We will have:
1) Nominal amount of Euros upon arrival
2) ATM from standard accounts
3) Second ATM from savings account at a different bank
4) Credit card from yet a third bank
5) Credit card from a fourth bank

This way the chances of all FOUR cards not working are pretty slim.

I hope that helps! It's timely too - since I was just looking at all of this stuff yesterday.

Sue

Thank you, Sue for the wonderful write-up for Euros. I decided to track history and the exchange rate was at 1.22 Euros when we booked last spring.
So, it is a good idea to get your Euros now instead of waiting another couple of months. Thank you for sharing your plan.

Hi all and welcome disney fans!
My dd has been sick the last few days..so I have spent my time doing some additional research...getting closer to being done (well, never done but more confident).

We are Stephanie and Taylor DD9 leaving 6/13 flying SFO to Heathrow (virgin) then changing to Iberia for final leg to barcelona. Arrive 6/14 staying at Barcelona Universal. All of our pre-cruise barcelona is on our own. I have several key sites mapped out from our hotel. My multi day metro card purchased! Our hotel is very close to the port in the montjuic (sp?) area.
After the cruise we are going to paris for 3 days. Probably spending thursday at DLP. I know there are others post cruising at DLP..
We have late seating dinner. Staying in 6003.

I hope that we will be *dreamed* an upgrade or that they are offering them for super cheap onboard! When I called to check on an upgrade to balcony from at cat11 it was 4k...uh no way!~

I was the one that posted about being no surcharge on board. That is what the DCL CM stated. She said it would be at the exchange rate. I don't know if that is current day or a specific day.

I am still stumped on what to bring cash wise..I think I will go to AMX on saturday and see what their surcharge is on the exchange. There really aren't too many places to get euros around here. (Without ordering) www.travelex.com is an online exchange. They are the currency places at most airports. They do offer a AAA discount. In case anyone is interested.

BTW.. we are taking the metro from the airport to our hotel. It's supposed to take 35 minutes and cost around 10e. We'll see.....

Just ordered my dd's sweatshirt...she's very excited.
Thanks for putting the pirate up again!

The best airfare we found was on Iberia from Boston to Barcelona. :thumbsup2 Unfortunately we live in Houston so we are going on continental to Boston then Iberia to Barcelona. We booked directly on Iberia’s web site (that was the cheapest way we could find). Good luck

I almost forgot: we are also staying at Casa Camper 14th to 16th

Glad to help:cool1: ... Ours came in last weekend and they look great. Hope they don’t kill the shirts too soon.

Hi All,

We are Marie and DS12 Jeff, we leave Philadelphia on June 14th arriving early in Barcelona and we are staying at the Ranaissance Barcelona Airport Hotel precruise. We have late seating and no room assigned just yet, we are guaranteed a Cat 7, we'll see. We haven't planned anything for the 15th since I'm not sure how tired we will be. I'm sure we'll come up with something!

Thanks for putting up the skull shirts, I ordered my DS's in the correct size, I guess I inherited the first shirt.

Thanks for the hard work Brian and Steph!
