June 1, 2008-Wonder Double-Dip

I saw that on the Kennedy Space Center website about the launch, too. We would love to see that but I am not going to pay to change flights. We are flying in on Sun. morning (which we have done a few times before), but I am a little worried this time with all of the cancellations lately! We were thinking of going to the KSC to tour it on the day we return from the cruise, though, has anybody been there? I have read some not-so-good reviews, but my 8-year old has been studying space and is really into it.

We have been there twice. Once when our daughter was 4 and once when she was 5. Or something like that. She enjoyed it both times. There's not a ton there, but she loved seeing the rockets, walking into the shuttle, the robot explorers, and the play area. We did not do the tours with her as we didn't think she could stay interested long enough. Oh, she liked the movie too.

Amanda - Could you also add that my room also includes DH and DS who is 3 to the fish extender list? Thanks so much for keeping up with that.

Glad to hear that the excitement is building for our cruise. We can't wait!!

We will also be treating Nassau as a sea day. We've been there, done that. Really wasn't much to interest us. We'd rather stay on the nearly empty ship. I'm really looking forward to the 2 days at Castaway Cay. This is our first time doing a Double Dip.

Hi Guys!

Sorry for the bad link. :confused3 I had just been surfing that day and evidently the link referred to the order in which I found it. I think I corrected it in the original post and I found a few more that had some good ideas. :thumbsup2 Hopefully they will all work:

Amanda: I have ordered a fish extender for our friends on Deck 5 (2 adults and a 3yo) as a surprise. Could you add them to the list as well? 3yo is my God-daughter. :cutie:

Glad to see folks are back. I was beginning to feel lonely. :sad1:

Okay, DH didn't make our reservations at the port yet. He was going to do that this week. Well, now that the Space Shuttle is expected to lift off on Saturday, ALL THE HOTELS ARE BOOKED!!!!!!!!!

ON the bright side, we'll probably just stay another night at SOG so some extra time at MK on Saturday. But I had hoped for a relaxing Sunday morning to get on the ship, now we'll be a little rushed.

Oh well, as long as we are on the ship before she sails (and before the DIS meet) all is good! :grouphug: :flower3:

Good Morning to all!!

Amanda- Can you add DH(Gene) and I will also have DD1 along with too! Thanks a bunch...

Jim-the shuttle sounds awesome, but like the other we won't be there yet. Darn it! Our plane touchs down just about 5pm at MCO.

Have a good day:)

Owensjro-
So there is a tour (maybe on a bus I read?) that you can take, but you can also just explore some of the things on your own? Are the things you mentioned-space shuttle, robots, etc. all in the same building? I don't think we want to spend all day there. Thanks!

Hi everyone,,, I'm tired. mammaw is in the step down unit. Not eating very well. Seems to be in good spirits. She is very excited about the cruise and telling everyone about it at the hospital where the unit is located. I need to call her today and will shortly. Any ideas on a shore excursion?

The main Visitor's Center is a complex with a number of buildings - there's a science show that's really good, the IMAX theaters, the Robot Scouts walk-through dark-ride kind of thing, a mock-up Space Shuttle you can walk through, a mission info center with briefings given at different times, a rocket garden, and a play area - those, along with the cafeteria and the store are the places we've seen. We've gotten there around opening and usually leave around 2 or 3. There are a couple of other buildings at the main complex we haven't been in yet, so I don't know what's there.

In addition, there's a basic tour included with admission - it's 3 hours. You get on a bus, and they take you to various other locations at KSC - there's a shuttle center with info, a Saturn V center with info... I think you can stay as long as you want at any of these and just hop the next bus. There are also some other tours that are longer and are an extra fee on top of the admission - these usually get you a more in-depth picture or closer to some of the buildings.

Finally, there's also the Astronaut Hall of Fame, which is just outside of KSC. Many tickets include an admission to this location as well. We haven't been there so I have no idea what's there.

You could probably spend a good day or more at KSC (And the hall of fame). For us, with driving time to and from Orlando, it's the day's activity - when we got back last time, I think we hung out at the pool, had dinner, etc.

Hey Bill - You're a Dr. right?

DH has gotten me hooked on the DIS Boards. I need at least 8 hours of sleep a night to function in the morning, but I just can't tear myself away from the DIS. I was up until midnight last night! :confused3 :sad2:

I think I need a 12-step program....1st step - Wonder Double-dip!!!!

I agree, I need a 12 step program, too. I am addicted to these boards! I play around every chance I get, (even at work.) I go back and forth between a few boards. I want to look at other stuff on the main board, but am afraid to. I have a hard enough time keeping up with the ones I do watch.

We are getting so excited! I am on the designing boards the most, getting all these ideas for making t-shirts, activity books, autograph books, etc. Problem is, there isn't enough time in the day to make all I want to make.:rotfl: Does everyone get autographs of all the characters? or just pics? both? Seems like that would take up a lot of time but if everyone is doing it...

Well, I'd better go do some work before it's time to go home.

I'm having a hard time getting everything organized for the trip. We are doing fish extenders (those are already ordered and on their way). We had planned to do pillowcases - but the lady that was going to do them can't get them to us in time because her machine broke. So maybe we'll do the photo mat instead. Although I don't know when I might be able to get to a craft store (not many of those floating around West Africa). Looks like more internet shopping this weekend! :cool1: :cool1:

Last summer when we went to DLP, the kids got autograph books. I had hoped that it would help them be less shy with the characters. They were thrilled with the autographs, but still hid during most of the photo ops. :confused3 :confused3

Now for the fish extender gifts....somehow I don't think "Toh" the national dish will make the trip (it's a crushed millet porridge gelatin type thing:scared1: :scared1: ). Hmmmmmmmmmmm.............. :confused3

I'd better get myself organized. I have to go to Germany next week, then I'm hosting spa day and book club, then it's the annual garage sale, then off to South Africa for a conference, then back to pack and off to WDW!!!! It's going to be a busy month! :scared1: :scared1: :scared1: :scared1:

We did a t-shirt for our daughhter. It turned out great and t-shirts are easy to toss a patter on our to buy one that already has something Disney on it.

And I almost forgot the door magnets!!! How could I forget those??? :confused3

I've ordered the magnetic paper and downloaded some graphics, but I haven't really thought about what I want to do. I've seen some threads with people making designs for others. Is that free? How do you make it into a magnet?

So, DH made Flounders reservations for the baby on Thursday morning at CC. We want to have some adult time at Serenity Bay. Has anyone ever gotten a massage there? Is it worth it? Or is it just better to lounge on the beach? :beach:

Where did you order your fish extenders? I would like to do one but don't have the inclination to make one. What kind of pillowcase were you going to do? I am doing one but I just bought white and was going to have the characters sign in colored sharpies. What else do people do with them? I was also going to look for autograph photo mats this weekend, too. I could look for 2 if you want.. I'd be happy to bring you one and pillowcases, too.

How long will you be in the States? You don't come all the way here just for a 4 day cruise, do you? How long is the commute? Do you have family/friends over here? I see that you're going to Tortola next year. What made you decide on that one? I have been undecided about which one to book. I know I want a 7 day, somewhere. Someone said if you book the next one before you go on this one and bring your confirmation statement, you could still get the 10% off that you normally get for booking onboard. Anyone know if that's true?

Linda

I ordered ours through E-bay. I typed in "fish extender" and there were several listed. They were more expensive that I had hoped, but the seller customized them just for us. I just got photos today and they look great!

I found some extra wide mats on Amazon, so those should be on their way. :thumbsup2 There is a DISer who had offered to personalize pillow cases with Disney characters and the kids' names. I ordered three, but then her machine broke. :sad1: :sad1: But I think we're good with the photo mats. Thanks for the offer though!

We are coming back to the U.S. for about 6 weeks. 1 week at WDW then the cruise, then off to visit family in TX and VA. :cool1: :cool1: :woohoo:

We decided to reserve the Tortola cruise next summer because that's when we'll transfer to another assignment and we get some vacation time. :worship: :worship: Plus, I've never been to Tortola, but I've been to all the Western Caribbean stops. :beach: DH decided to reserve now in case prices go up, but then to rebook on board if it's cheaper with the 10% discount. :teacher:

It'd be nice if we could get it cheaper, but it's always possible that the USG will say we have to change the dates too, so nothing's set in stone at this point.

I wish this hourglass would go faster!!!! :hourglass I need to be on a cruise! :dance3:

Joann,,,,, if that was you,, then , yes , I am a doctor. So is my wife Angela. It can be kind of interesting on a cruise. I helped one of our friends whose dad went into congestive heart failure from refusing his meds during the Panama cruise. I helped another lady who had food stuck in her esophagus on the western cruise at Key West. She was terrified and I was able to reassure her what was occurring and also reassured the nurse on the cruise ship by letting her know what was the correct action. That lady eventually was taken off the ship to the emergercy room in Key West and we set sail.. I never got to see the hospital, although I would like to.

What would you prescribe to help with a DISboards addiction???? :rolleyes1

It's interesting. the other day I was suffering from the exact opposite problem.........BOARD-UM!!!!!!!! teehee... Yes,,, the boards are addicting. that's how I got associated with the dancing bananas. Just can't quite seem to break away. Got to love um. I'm also kind of fond of the guy drinking coffee in front of the terminal. Let's see what will help you. I'm typing in the dark. I suspect that you may have vit D deficiency. Leading to a preoccupation with computer terminal lighting in a covert attempt to rebuild your levels by light exposure. the focus of you on the particular thread is probably reflective of suppressed childhood hysteria. (for those of you that don't know this,,, this is purely humor and not intended to be actual medical advice) BOY,,, these days, you just can't take any chances. And now ,,, straight from Indianapolis,,, Larry Bird and the indiana Pacers.

You know,,,, It sounds like you might have a case of DIS entery. :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:
