I've been lurking for awhile and have found these boards to be very helpful in planning our upcoming trip. Thanks for all the honest opinions!

My family will be taking our first trip to WDW in July. (We used to live near DL and have been there hundreds of times.) We will be celebrating my parent's 35th, my graduation from grad school (MLS) and my brother's graduation from college. This is a very well deserved trip!

We will be at WDW from July 19-26. I know from looking up past weather reports that during the day, it will be very hot (near 90) and humid (around 80%). I still have some weathe related questions:

1. How cool does it get in the evening? Will we need to take sweatshirts and change into long pants or will we be okay in tanks and shorts all day?

2. Does it really rain all day in July? Rain doesn't bother us (we live near Seattle) but I just want to be prepared for all day rain vs. a quick shower. We have plenty of GoreTex to protect us, I just want to know how much to bring. :)

TIA!

Hi there.

We went last July/August and you will definately not need sweatshirts or trousers.

It is hot, hot, hot even at night. We were walking round MK at 11pm in shorts and t-shirts and it was great. So definately leave the warm clothes behind. :smooth:

When we went we had rain almost everyday but it rarely lasted longer than half an hour and within another half an hour everything was bone dry! :sunny:

We found the rain to be a welcome cooling down. For us the weather is great. Very hot with a little rain each day. Perfect. :cloud9:

No need for sweats or anything like that in July!!
As for rain--who really knows?? Most likely IF it rains at all it will be those "hit or miss" thunderstorms.

Well you will not need any sweaters or sweatshirts!! LOL That is for sure. Any cooling down you get even in the rides will be welcome. Generally you will get an afternoon thunderstorm to cool thing off almost daily- but that being said we were there last 4th of july ofr a week and it didn't rain at all. So I would bring some easy to pack rain gear and maybe come with some quidck drying shorts. That is usually all we need. And have a great time! The first trip ahhhhh

We always go in July and let me tell you - definitely no need for sweatshirts or jeans! It is hot, hot, hot, even at night! I just buy the dollar store rain ponchos in case we get caught in one of the afternoon storms. Usually they don't last too long and help cool things down for a little bit.

Where are you staying - we're at DIsney July 12-23 and Universal July 23-27!

I usually carry a very light sweater in my bag if I am wearing a sleeveless shirt. Some of the restaurants (Rainforest Cafe for sure) are pretty frigid in the surmmer.

I agree 100%. We have gone in July and are going this July as well. This has been our experience, too.

I totally understand the OP's question about sweatshirts and jeans. We went to Disneyland in April 01, and it was gorgeous during the day - 80's, very low humidity. But at night - it was down right COLD! And we were NOT prepared. I bought a heavy sweatshirt and DH bought a jacket.

So Florida does not have as big a shift in temp from day to night.

We will be there from 7/17/ to 7/24 and we're staying at the Wilderness Lodge! See you all there!!!!!!!!!!

You will definately not need any sweats or long pants even at night. Its hot and balmy! That's the beauty of Summer. There are no questions what to bring.

As far as the rain goes we were there 7/16-7/31 last year and it only rained a few days in the afternoon or early evening. Actually it wasn't until the end of the trip that it even rained. It could rain all day if that type of storm blew in, but the type of rain that is typical this time of year is the type that comes in the afternoon and lasts for a few minutes till it helps cool the humidity down (just a tad).

I live in Daytona Beach, Florida. Were talking an hour or so drive to Disney World. So if there is anyone that can answer this question - it would be me! :thumbsup2 July is an odd month for us Florida residents. The weather can change in a matter of minutes. However, you can almost always count on the heat. Therefore, I suggest you dress in light colored clothing [do not wear black, unless you want to burn.] I would also suggest you bring a pair of sandals to air out the feet! Also, one of the most important things to bring is a Poncho! We are known for afternoon storms in July. However, dont be scared because they usually dont last long. It is still good to bring one just in case! :rotfl:

We are returning soon and I just had to say that the temps won't be "near" 90 degrees, they will very likely be 90+ every day. You can check accuweather .com right before your trip. they have something called "ReelFeel" or something like that, which will tell you what the temps will really feel like.

I would suggest every heat avoidance you can use. We carry ziploc bags filled with ice from the resort and clean washcloths to cool our faces. We have a few Misty Mates that we fill with ice and water. We bring several water bottles that we keep in the resort rooms frig in the freezer section. we like to take breaks in the hottest part of the day (12 to 4 approx.).

The heat can really get to people who are not accustomed to that kind of temp and especially humidity.

Good advice. I was just going to say the same thing. Another thing we did when we went in June was taking an extra change of clothes for each day. At least an extra shirt (and bras for the girls). When we would go back to the resort for the afternoons we usually took a nap, showered, swam, etc. I can't imagine putting those smelly sweaty clothes back on after that.

Wow! Thanks for sharing experiences, good advice, and weather websiter recommendations. I took careful note of the ways to stay cool because I'm more worried about my parents in the heat and humidity than I am about me!

We will be staying at the AKL and are very excited for our Savannah View room.

I get more excited everyday for this trip! :yay: When my parents first brought it up, my brother and I weren't too thrilled and thought we were too old (I'm 23, brother is 21) for WDW. (We went to DL tons as children.)However, the more I plan and read and the more time I spend on the boards, the more excited I get!

The enthusiasm on the boards is infectious! I can't really explain it, but when I see a "community" of people so passionate, positive, and willing to share information with others to help make a great vacation, I can't help but get excited for my own experience! Thanks, everyone!

Haha, I've never seen so much excitement about sweating to death,
But really, this thread is very informative, especially since I live in the Bay ARea of CA and we almost never experience humidity, but me and my friend are lively teenagers. We can handle anything!... I hope.

Ha Ha (LOL). I've been changing ADRs all week! Right now we're July 12-19 YC Waterview room with AP rate (yeah!) - July 19-23 POR (Really nervous about that one - this money pit house is doing me in) - and HRH Club July 23-27.

Of course you're leaving in a week and gone for how long, 8 days? Who knows where we'll be staying by the time you get back!

Have a great trip!!!!

DisneyMomx7 we are going to be at OKW ( welcome home) from July 15 - 21st.
I always have my green mickey head on my water bottle.. say Hi if you see us..

July.. best advice is go early to the parks, back to the resort in the afternoon for a swim to cool off, then back at night. There is a reason why the parks are open late at night in July.. take advantage of that..

It will be well over 90 every day(I always go in July)and very humid. Best advice, wear light colred clothing, especailly sleeveless tops and don;t bother tucking them into your shorts. Wearing them out will be so much more comfortable. Remember though, some of the a/c attractions and restaurants can be downright frigid!!!! I always carry a very lightweight nylon anaorak that I can roll up in a ball in a small backpack. that way I don;t freeze my behind off whilke I am supposed to be having fun!

Hey, I will be there July 15th through 18. Going to a teacher's convention. Will you be at the convention too?
