How busy are the parks in July and August? I had a dream the other night that we went to Disneyworld this coming summer, so, just in case it magically becomes a possibility I am wondering:

when would you go?
why?
ideas for staying sane while at WDW in summer?

Thanks!!

If those are your two choices, go as late in August as you can. Both are ridiculously hot. Both are crowded. But the further along in August you can wait, the more kids go back to school. Room rates start dropping in mid August too.

Totally agree with this! Tour groups are usually present in July so that may or may not have an effect on you depending on where you stay. We went the first two weeks of August last year and had a great time. We went for RD or went later at night. We spent afternoons at the pool and/or taking a break at the hotel. Did the water parks as well. Takes some planning and maybe a different touring strategy than you are used to, but you can have a great time.

We went for two weeks mid-late August one year and the later it got the less people there were. The end of the trip felt about the same as other low-crowd times we had gone (October and May). It was also less crowded than when we went this past June-- and it wasn't as hot. Maybe we just lucked out, but I thought August would have been hotter than mid-June.

Week before Labor Day would be my choice if your kids aren't in school. That's when we cruise because it's the cheapest week they aren't in school because most kids are.

Would either of those times fall into the "free dining" possibility?
Hot. Humid. Crowded all of July and the first half of August. My personal preference is to avoid both months, having gone during those times a few times in the past.

As you get into the latter half of August, crowds ease up but the parks close earlier, so you have a trade off there. You still pay the same price for your tickets (at least for now), whether you go in peak times or slower seasons. Room rates will be better in the slow season and there are better discounts during those times.

As for *free* dining, July and early August have typically been a NO for that kind of offer. However, there is a "Summer Meals Offer" for Value Resorts only. But you better hurry! The booking window closes on 2/29/16.
