I know, the 2 hottest months of the year, but I am a teacher and that's all I can choose. Was out on leave this year and we went 2 weeks ago at the Beach Club, but a May trip won't happen again. Refresh my memory...is it really that hot and crowded then? We would like to stay at the YC this time, and plan on enjoying the resort- with going to the parks maybe just 4 of the 7 days. I have a DD- 9 months and a DS- 7 years old. Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Hi Eeyore,

It is REALLY hot.

But if you notice my signature you can see that the August heat hasn't stopped us! You can't beat the heat in the summer...but you can beat the crowds. If you go the last two weeks in August crowds are very manageable. Crowds start to thin out around August 15, or whatever date that particular Monday is.

We visit Disney once a year usually and have been doing for about 8 years now. In all that time we have only ever gone outside of July/August once. And the only reason for that was so that we could go to MNSSHP.

July/Aug is the best time! The parks are open later and everything just seems to be done to perfection around these times in comparison to October when we were left feeling quite disappointed.

Lets be honest though, Disney is the most magical place on Earth so it doesnt really matter when you go, it'll always b fabulous!

Have fun! :flower:

I am in the same boat as you - I teach and can only go in the summer months. My DD8 and I went in late August last year. We don't go back to school until after Labour Day. It wasn't busy at all. We walked onto nearly every ride except Peter Pan and Dinosaur (which we both hated, anyway). You do run the risk of a hurricane though. Our flight home was cancelled and we had to rent a car and drive home. We are going the same time this year but driving down in case we have to evacuate again!
It was stinking hot but it is stinking hot where we live in August too. We were just hot at WDW!!!!!! :Pinkbounc We followed advice from these boards and guide books and got up early and hit the parks until about noon and went back to our resort for a long pool break then back to the parks for the evenings. We were well equipped with sunscreen and water while at the parks and we both had a great time.
Good luck with your plans! :flower:

We have to go in the summer since the DD and DS hit jr. high and we could no longer justify taking them out of school. However, with your kids ages, I'd take the advice and go in later August when the crowds thin down. We do our days "upside down" with teens (DS-17 and DD-15), so the crowds and heat don't bother us even when we go in June/July for 2 weeks. But with little ones, the crowds are a negative factor. It rains in July almost daily and the heat can be a nuisance. Not sure but that rain may not be a factor in later August either.
Make PSs for every meal you want to eat a a sit down. Ohanas would be fun for your family (great food and hawaiian races/hula hoop for the younger set). Hoop De Doo is another good family value and it's loads of fun. We went in mid January when the kids were little and really enjoyed the lack of crowds and ability to get onto almost every attraction when we wanted, even though the parks closed early. So there's pros and cons to every season. Have a magical time. :earsgirl: :earsboy: :earsboy: :earsgirl:
