July... How hot is it really?

Whenever I see "how hot" questions, I always think of Robin Williams in the scene from Good Morning, Vietnam. It's hot, damn hot!

ETA: I should read before I post. I see somebody already linked it. :-)

I have read this thread with interest since we will be there for 10 days in July.
What I have learned so far is:
* plan two changes of clothes for each person each day
* buy a frog togg for everyone in our party
* plan afternoons by the pool or in the AC hotel room
* buy a mini fan for everyone in our party
* take or purchase plenty of water or ask for free cups at CS restaurants

You beat me to this. I have felt hotter in a theme park than in AK. The A/C there is scarce!

It's crazy cuz even with all the tree cover, it is still miserable. Then they have fans everywhere, which literally push hot air at you. Exact reason that AK is a half day for us and then we pool it up all night after.

We have been doing daily Disney training walks for the last two months (we are one month away) and have been going to different parks for practice (Dorney Park & Six Flags). The only thing I can wear on my feet that are comfortable both walking and waiting in line that don't give me blisters are my flip flops. This is the second post today I have seen about flip flops but different strokes for different folks and not to worry, the feet/legs/ankles of this flip flop wearer are aok.

I imagine it's an age, size and activity thing.

I think it does come down to individuals. I have some friends that can only wear flip flops because of their leg size and/or struggles with heat; they start in March in the Northeast. Brrrrrr
I've also seen folks that shuffle along be okay in flip flops but, power walkers, beware. If you have not 'trained' and you intend to move quickly, please pack those sneakers. Flip flops are (almost) a dime a dozen - sneakers are much more difficult to fit and expensive to buy on the fly. Put both in your baggage so you have a choice.

It's like the plentiful foliage and lack of buildings traps the heat at near ground level.

I always think of Biloxi Blues - "Man it's hot. It's like Africa hot"

What about July heat
after the sun sets in the evenings? We are planning on staying in the resort during the day to relax and then do casual evenings in the parks (I think the earliest we are going one day is around 6p to Epcot). I'm hoping this will make things a little more bearable.

Sunscreen. Plenty of sunscreen. Also, drink something besides water. Something that has all the minerals and electrolytes you are sweating out. Powerade or something similar really helps.

It will be HOT enough to make your brunch on the sidewalk in the MK (bacon, eggs, ham).

Sometimes, I bring lightweight (like feather weight) blouses to wear over a tank top - keeps the sun off of the body. SUNGLASSES - Not fun to need to stop in the parks and shell out $ for a replacement. Bring a second cheap pair just in case.

Also,be prepared to "dodge" lightning bolts in the afternoons/evenings.:)

Central Florida is the "lightning capital" of the USA and Summer is "peak season".

Look at the roofs of the buildings and you will see lightning rods EVERYWHERE.

The lightning in Summer is AMAZING to see!:)

Ok, I'm a previous poster coming back to say that I live in South Florida (Boca Raton, not far from Fort Lauderdale) and it is BRUTAL today. B-R-U-T-A-L! Extremely hot! Africa hot! Too hot! We will be at WDW over the 4th and I am actually starting to have second thoughts! I mean it is HOT! I just decided today that I am going to: #1 pray for rain and #2 bring my umbrella that I plan on using for the sun, even if it doesn't rain. :sunny:

Awesome, I live about 2 hours from there! So I'm sure the weather is close. I have been getting a taste of those showers lately, it was raining so much our lake and river flooded, and those have been low for years now! Since it rains so much, how are the mosquitos? Should I bring repellant?

The only places I've ever been bitten was at Ft. Wilderness during the Campfire/Movie and playing Mini-Golf. I get eaten alive everywhere else so I live with bug repellant all summer, but have never been bitten in the parks. Mosquitos are alive and thriving at the mini-golf places however!

Ok, what's A Frog Togg? And where do you get one?

They are cooling cloth-like things that are lifesavers! You can buy them on Amazon, at Academy, or sporting goods stores. Each of us have a different color. I don't know how we would have survived our summer trip without them.
