I can’t find a July car rental thread. If I missed it, please let me know.

Anyone finding great rates for July? We traveled for a longer trip in May and decided last minute to go for a short 4-5 day July trip. My price isn’t bad ( $330 for 5 night standard through Thrifty but it’s still much higher than I paid for 10 days for May/June trip) I would like to avoid Thrifty if possible because you can’t go straight to garage anymore.

If anyone has a great rate somewhere, I would love some direction. We are DVC,
AP, AAA and have most of the box store memberships so I qualify for many codes. Thanks!

I am joining this as I am trying to figure out rental car for arrival to MCO and drop off at Disney Car Care the next morning. I was thinking of joining AARP to get a code and I believe you can add a driver for free. My latest question is are there any rental services at the airport? I keep seeing off site, like for Alamo. And from what I have been reading, Alamo seems to be the best bet. Sorry to be all over the place but I would just like to get this crossed off my ToDo List. TIA for any help!

I don’t have any great rate info; just an fyi that Dollar doesn’t allow you to go directly to your car anymore at MCO. My husband travels to MCO frequently for business, and Dollar was his preferred for price and convenience. He went in June and was told going forward, you have to stop inside where there is generally a long line. No more Dollar for him. (If anyone finds this may have been a temporary thing, like for lack of employees, please post!)

We found this out in May with Thrifty too. So inconvenient. So far my best rate for July is Thrifty but our flight lands at midnight so I am hoping it won’t be too busy inside.

I'm going the 8th-13th and my rental price has dropped. I'm down to $283 with a compact through Costco and then Alamo. I check every day a few times. :car:

Through Costco (Alamo) I've got $366 for a compact SUV July 20-25th which is a little high....I would prefer that to be under $300. I had a 6 day rental in May for $251 for a midsize. In January and February I had 2 day rentals with Costco for $80 and $110....these were with Budget which I would prefer to never do again. I'm one that checks the rates multiple times a day and will rebook and cancel repeatedly. This generally works for me but my upcoming trip the rates have just been going up almost daily. Alamo has been the lowest price since I started looking which is odd since Budget is usually the lowest.

Most of the major brand car companies are on site at MCO (Alamo, Hertz, Dollar, Thrifty, Avis, Budget, etc are all on site). Some companies you can go straight to the garage if you are a member of their rewards program, but others you cannot and you will have to go to the counter in the terminal.

If you have a Costco membership, you get a second driver free by booking through them. I think there are other corporate rates that have that perk too.

I currently have July 20-26th at $380 Alamo through Costco. I had Thrifty until yesterday when Alamo's price came down. I went the end of May and had a 10-day rental for $214 through Thrifty so I was hoping for a better rate than $380. I will just keep checking and hope for the best.

Following along for an August trip.

I am also a frequent rental car checker and have used Thrifty our last few times with no complaints...until May. Thrifty also had us go inside even though we are Blue Chip and it was a nightmare! No advantage to have it if that's the case. Budget was horrible the one time we used them. Dollar used to be our go-to but if they are like Thrifty (since they are sister companies) and send us outside...that's a no brainer that we have to try something else. I used to be long time Alamo (have their frequent renter) and love that we can do the paperwork ahead of time and just go. They have been more expenasive but might be worth it.

I'm also just looking to rent 4 nights/5 days and it's at $400 right now, which is crazy. Funny enough I booked last week for the same time frame but a few hours later and it was $277, so paying over $100 more for that extra few hours is crazy. I'll keep stalking all the companies (and here) in case anybody has some good deals!

www.autoslash.com Put in your information, which frequent flyer programs you're a part of, what CC you have, what warehouse club memberships and it goes through all of the publicly available codes. I have never paid more than $340 for a week rental and that includes at MCO during the car rental apocolypse.

I have used Autoslash the last few rentals and usually find them to be the cheapest every time. However, that is not the case for the July rental. I am not sure why???? Both rates that I have held for July so far have been direct with Costco and direct with Thrifty. Autoslash was higher on both. They are cheaper for the lower tier agencies, but I never use them because I have read too many bad reviews.

Yeah I use Autoslash also. It isn't doing as well as the sites directly. Also SWA seems to have changed their Special Rates for rental cars page and are only showing 3 now instead of all the ones they used to show. I'll just keep stalking of course.

We have a minivan from 7/7 to 7/17 through Budget for a little over $700. It’s not great but we like the space and the option for the kids to not have to sit right next to each other. With 4 of us carrying a backpack and 4 large suitcases, anything smaller is a less than ideal squeeze and I prefer not to hear DH grumbling about having to play Tetris with our items.

My rate was previously $380 for 7/19-7/26 compact SUV Alamo through Costco. Today I found managers special from dollar for $340 with AAA CDP code. This is directly though Dollar site as it was higher booking through AAA site (makes no sense). I’m a bit leery of keeping it because you can’t go direct to garage anymore with Dollar. My flight arrives at midnight so maybe it won’t be too busy inside airport????
