July Cancellations

Here's an interesting theory as to why they might not cancel July just yet...lets assume for a moment that DCL decides it wants to do test cruises so that they can get approval to sail with non vaccinated kids. (just a thought exercise here, I have no idea if this is what they want)

So they are getting all their ducks in a row, getting the agreements in place, the ship staffed up, vaccinated, etc. but it's still too soon to know exactly when they plan to be ready to go and actually apply for the test cruise. Need a few more weeks for all that to become clearer.

If you are going to do a test cruise , possibly as early as July, do you as DCL cancel the cruise, and then later offer volunteers the option to go on your test? If you were originally going to be on the ship that same time, you'd feel pretty bummed out.

OR get creative here. Say the test cruise is going to be a specific July sailing on the Dream...send an email to everyone on that cruise letting them know that it is cancelled and being turned into a test cruise. They have 3 options

1 - Cancel and get a full refund
2 - Get a FCC equal to 125%
3 - Volunteer to be on the test cruise (18+ only, vaccine or health note required, etc). If you choose this option, your reservation will remain AND you get a 100% FCC or refund since they can't technically make money on the test cruise.

Could be an easy and fair way to get the volunteers, and a reason why they haven't canceled July just yet.

I think this is a great option for test cruises for a couple of reasons. One, it rewards the people who hung on to their reservations and who want to sail (while giving options for those who aren't comfortable yet). And two, if the test sail is supposed to be a simulation of a real cruise then these are the ideal people to be on it because they are your regular customers, not people just signing up because it's free.

Isn't the Conditional Sail Order tied to the National State of Emergency? That is currently set to end on July 21st, unless extended another 90 days. However, the Biden Administration is pushing for a full July 4th celebration. If all of that is true, then we might only see a few more weeks of cruises canceled with options for people to cancel a lot closer to the sail date without penalty and no more FCC given. But I can be wrong on that.

I’ve actually been ASSUMING this is what they will do! It will take much longer to acquire volunteers from scratch then to modify an existing set of reservations.

Problem is that people need to plan for these test cruises. And there are SO MANY families on Disney, there's no way you can fill a test cruise with current reservations. So you will have to work to find people who will fit the test cruise parameters.

There’s no way it’s going to end July 21st, it will be extended. There are states where restaurants can’t even find a way to open 100% without the owner being arrested.

If the past year is any indication, local, state, and national leaders have perpetually given seemingly reachable goals where freedom resumes, only to reset the clock, for just two more weeks. Next thing you know, it’s over a year.

All COVID trendlines are going down and most states have reopening plans. Even California is projecting to be fully open by June 15th(per the AARP website). Could they extend the National State of Emergency, yes. But I will be surprised if they do. Even Disney is removing temperature checks, Disneyland is welcoming guest again, Sport stadiums are filling. We are going to have a few years of heightened awareness of infectious diseases, but as COVID becomes more manageable and more into history, people will just go back to doing things the way they use to. I think some people will still continue to wear mask, but social distancing will slowly start to be reduced. Every plague ends, and there is way too much money to be made for this one to continue much longer. I personally feel optimistic.

That's because we're not to that point yet. Yes, a lot of people have been vaccinated...but a lot of people haven't. So while restrictions are easing, it's not over yet. The key number to keep an eye on is the number of active cases, and we're just now getting to the point where we were early last summer...when everything was still closed down even more.

Listen, I hope you’re right. Covid trend lines have been going down since Inauguration Day when the CDC changed testing guidelines and closed up the acceptable range. It should have been done a long time ago, but the range was so wide, it would pick up dead traces of the virus.

When Georgia was the first state to reopen, everyone criticized the governor, telling us it would be a blood bath, same with Texas and Florida.

My word of advice to anyone wanting to vacation, is don’t schedule it around midterm elections, and certainly not within 6 months of the 2024 election.

Unfortunately it's not just about the US when it comes to cruises resuming.

This has been shown to be false.

Dubious websites and viral posts falsely claim that the World Health Organization changed COVID-19 testing protocols for political reasons following Joe Biden’s inauguration and admitted that false-positive cases had been inflating the case count. The WHO’s guidance merely reminded labs to follow instructions provided by each test’s manufacturer.
