July 5 2014 Mediterranean Cruise Meet Thread

I don't see a meet thread started for this Cruise on July 5, 2014 sailing from Venice so starting this here. We just booked this cruise for a family vacation next summer. We did a Mediterranean Cruise in 2010 on Disney and we really enjoyed it.

We are celebrating my 50th birthday. I've always wanted to go to Greece.

It will be DH, 55, myself, DSs 17 and 15. I've invited everyone I know,but as of now that's it.

We are booked too! We have three cabins and can't wait to return to Venice.
Now, it will be a long wait for 2014!

This thread seems very light compared to other Med cruises in 2014. Anyone have thoughts on why?

Perhaps it has to do with time. What I mean is that we have been on the line of thinking that if we are going to spend x amount of dollars on airfare we might as well stay longer. Which might be why others have gone with the 12 day trips.

We (our plans currently) are flying into Rome and spending a few days there, and some time Venice before the cruise. I'm a little disappointed that we don't arrive in Venice until 6pm on the last night. We are not late night people and will likely have dinner on the ship.

It does seem from the thread for the 12 night cruise in July that there are more people (or at least more people are active on disboards). I think the increment in price to go from 9 night to 12 night seemed too much (especially having 4 sea days on the ship) to get me to consider it more and would rather use that money to extend trip before or after cruise.

I don't like either that this 9 night cruise doesn't arrive on 9th day til evening in Venice so its disappointing to me too. I already gave some feedback to Disney as it seems like a wasted day and if they could go back earlier, it could have lended itself to more time as a port day in Venice (or port afternoon/evening) in Venice as deboarding the ship at 6:30pm on day 9 when you have to leave ship for good early next morning isn't much of a port oppty. We did Med Cruise in 2010 so spent time in Barcelona afterwards. We did miss getting to Malta as we had our cruise start interrupted from Icelandic Volcano and our flight got cancelled and it took us so long to get to Europe that when we finally got a flight, it was to Rome, spent a few days there and boarded the ship late in Naples missing first few days on the ship including the stop in Malta. Disney did a fabulous job of helping us worked out arrangements to board ship late so we wouldn't have to cancel the whole cruise. So that is what I like about 12 night cruise is the stop in Malta as I was disappointed a few years ago we missed that on our cruise, but I don't like the fact that the 12 night cruise has 4 sea days coupled with the fact that the cost difference wasn't negligble enough to me when we plan to extend already outside of the cruise.

The 12 night did not have enough time in Greece. I've always wanted to go to Greece, so the time is Greece is super important.

We are also on this cruise. Me, DH, and DDs 14 and almost 11 at the time we sail. This is the girls first trip to Europe. They are big Percy Jackson fans, so spending time in Greece was why we picked this cruise.

We've enjoyed the Percy Jackson books as well! This will be our second trip. We did the trans Atlantic cruise in '07. We flew home through London and I'll never forget the youngest say that he'll "start" with... when I asked him what he wanted when we were in an English pub. After having spent 2 weeks on the ship he just thought every meal "started " with soup.

I can't wait to make new memories!

Welcome! This is our 2nd cruise on the Magic in Mediterranean as well. Last time was in 2010 and we visited ports in Italy, France, sailing in/out of Barcelona. This time the ports are all different so looking forward to that.
