I'm a new member and am beginning to plan for next year's trips. My thought is that I would spend the July 4th week @ HH then shoot down to WDW for a few days. Can anyone tell me what HH is like around the July 4th holiday? Additionally, how is WDW in the days following July 4th? Does this sound like a plan that makes sense or is it too much travel? Thanks for your help.:jester:

Last year I was at HH at the end of July, not for the 4th. Each Tuesday night during July they had a fireworks display from a barge out on the marsh. One of the CM's told me that it had gone on since the 4th. There was also some kind of barbeque meal/picnic you could sign up for at the pool, I think. The fireworks were typically Disney wonderful! Our unit faced the marsh, so we sat on the porch to enjoy them. I like your idea of spending the 4th there and then going on down to WDW; I may do the same next year. We will be at OKW for the 4th this year.

We were at HH for the 4th last year and will be again this summer. The area is a beehive of activity. The merchants association for the Shelter Cove area has lots of great activities planned all summer- but especially for the 4th.

The resort also has some family actvites, both at the beach house and at the resort. The fireworks are great and are launched from a barge anchored behind the resort in the marsh. Great viewing from the resort.

Weather will be HOT and the ocean delightful. A great tme to be there.

Enjoy!

I think spending the 4th at HH followed by a few days at WDW is a great idea! We adore HH but will be there for the 4th for the first time after hearing the wonderful time our friends have had then. Our original plan had us then heading to BWV for a few days, but we have since changed our plans from BWV to the Disney Magic. I expect to have the vacation of a lifetime! :p

How hard is it to get reservations for the 4th at the 7 month window? Is the beach really crowded then?

Doc, since you have been able to get in @ HH for the 4th, can you give me some advice on how best to pull it off. HH is my home resort so I can reserve at the 11 month window. Thanks for the help.

Wow...I thought my family was the only one who still referred to the "ironbound" as "down neck"! I am assuming that is where you're from b/c of your name. My dad grew up down neck many many years ago on Elm St. I'm a new DVCer. Are you planning to fly or drive from HH to WDW b/c it is a LONG drive. It takes us 7 hours from the Atlanta area!

This is really cool! I grew up on Warwick Street before moving away to the 'burbs many years ago. I really miss that time in my life! As far as driving, yes. It's supposed to be 5-6 hours from HH to WDW, so it shouldn't be bad at all, especially in comparison to the drive from Bergen County to HH.

No special tricks needed for HH in July. I just call at 10-11 months and have had no problem at all.

We usually request a 1BR- which is a little tougher than a 2BR and there has never been any difficulty.

HH does fill quickly and is a small resort, so those factors do make the 11 month window important. However, as some have recently shared, 7 month reservations in the summer at HH are still possible.

I'd always suggest making use of the wait list for any reservation.
