July 4th? go to or stay away from parks

We will definitely be at DLR on the fourth of July. Hubby wants to go to park and "brave it out." I want to do something away from DL like a whale watching tour, beach, or Midway and San Diego Zoo. Then again, those things may be packed as well.

Locals and Experts, what are your thoughts? We are honestly clueless.

We have plans going July 4th as well. From what I've read it is pretty manageable and doesn't get real busy until the evening. We have dinner reservations and Fantasmic premium viewing set up so not planning on doing much else for the evening.

We arrive on the 4th. Plan is to have lunch, try to do a few rides in DL, have a nice dinner, then head to the pool. My kids don't care as much about the fireworks, so we'll either just hang out at the pool at GC or wonder around DD and see what we can see from wherever outside of the park.
