Cast:
Jen 23. 3rd time at Disney want to join DVC.
Jake 25. Still the patient husband who most definately says no to DVC.
We woke up at about 7:00. I figured we would go to MGM for the evening fireworks since they only do them twice a year. However, I knew we wouldn't want to be at the theme park from open to close. With that logic we headed to the food court for a leisurly breakfast and then returned to our rooms and packed a backpack for Typhoon Lagoon.
This was the best possible strategy we could have had. We arrive a minute or two after opening and there was no crowd! Everything we went on had either no wait or a small wait. Even the new water coaster (wow I can't remember the name) had no more than a 5 minute wait all the way up to about 1 p.m.
I really like TL. Though when there aren't any lines to deal with, you realize that there isn't much to do. We went on each slide twice and went out on a search for the water coaster. It seriously took us an hour or so to find (of course we were sliding and what have you in between). I would say the funniest part of the day came when we decided to relax in the wave pool. Just as we were getting in a wave was finishing. We went to where the water was about 4 and a half feet deep and we waited and waited and waited...Seriously a half hour in the wave pool and not one wave. We debated getting out but were steadfast in the belief that as soon as we exited the pool a wave would come. Finally we couldn't take it anymore and decided to get out. As soon as we reached about 2 feet a wave came! We moved up a little to catch it, but still decided to get out. We had had enough of the wave pool. Well wouldn't you know that as soon as we were walking away from the pool, another wave came, and another.... The whole rest of the time we were at the park you could hear the waves and the laughing. It was an ongoing joke the whole trip.
So we caught the bus back to good ole POFQ where we had lunch. I called my mom for a couple minutes because we have an unhealthy attachment and I must talk to her everyday even if it's for a minute. We then caught the bus to MGM. I would say we got there around 3.
Again I would say that it was very uncrowded, considering it's July 4th. As soon as we got in the park we realized it was about time for the stunt show so we decided to take that in first. I get very hot very easily and I found the walk to "lights, motor, action" to be a bit grueling. I had my cold water but I just couldn't stop sweating. It's not like I was over dressed either. I had on a little tank top and very short cutoffs along with sandals. Anyway, we got stuck in a little bit of a line and the Q area for the show really stinks. It's out in the sun and you are standing on black asphalt. I know it goes with the theme but I thought I was gonna cry.
We finally sat down about 2/3rds of the way up. I fanned myself profusely and watched the show. I thought it was very interesting. More fun than I thought. My husband, who is a mechanic thought the show was great and took lots of pictures.
After the stunt show we had to take in tower of terror. I just love that ride and can't get enough. We probably watied about 40 minutes, though I don't quite remember. We had the best cast member loading the elevator. His name was Jeff, I think. There were these rowdy kids that were ahead of us. He loaded them in the elevator and asked us to excuse him. He proceeded to discreetly lecture them about proper behavior or whatever. He then said something to us under his breath about the marvels of american public schooling and told us if they ruined the ride that all we had to do was mention his name to the person who was unloading and that we could ride again. Now this was quite un Disney, but me and Jake thought it was great.
The brats were alone, there were 4 of them and they were all about 14. They were quite obnoxious for the whole ride, but I didn't really care. I think the TOT is probably the best ride at Disney and we rode it numerous times on this trip.
After TOT it was about time for Dinner. We had made reservations at 50's prime time. We got there about 5 minutes before our PS and waited 20 to 25 minutes. No big deal I guess. When we finally were seated it was fun to take in the sights and watch all the waiters joke with people. I noticed our waiter kind of ran the table next to us. He didn't really play with us too much, but that was fine with me. Dinner was good but service was SLOW. Everything took forever. I had a reservation for 6:55 and by the time we got out we only had 15 minutes until the 9p.m. fireworks.
Ah, the fireworks. They were quite beautiful but I found them much too short. I would be surprised if they were longer than 10 minutes. They just threw on a jumble of american music and blew them off. There wasn't a lot of variety. I don't know, they were fireworks. Just not that impressive for a place like Disney who does fireworks every night.
After the fireworks we decided to try to see fantasmic. We were seated intently and the show was cancelled. I was disappointed but it wasn't the end of the world. We sat around in the ampitheater while it cleared out because I wasn't in the mood to be hearded like cattle.
We left the park waited for maybe 4 to 5 busses and we were on our way home. We reflected on the fact that it must have been busier than we thought because we were at MGM at 3ish and only saw 1 show and rode one ride. No bother, we had our whole trip ahead of us.
We were in good spirits and had a happy 4th of July.
