What's the deal this summer with Universal & the 4th?! We'll be staying the the 4th weekend, at the RPR. First they said the fireworks were cancelled, BUT, as another option, the Portobino was having a celebration/picnic/thing at their beach. Well, Citywalk cancelled their "blow-out" festivities (I don't know why they have to cancel the whole thing, just because there aren't fireworks!) I called Portobino, and they were like "Huh?", didn't know anything about a celebration. Of course Margaritaville cancelled their roof-top party (because no fireworks to watch)

I LOVE Universal, but I don't understand why there aren't ANY celebrations at all!! :confused3 It's frustrating enought that 6 months ago when I made my reservations, we decided to spend the 4th at Universal, instead of Disney, because of the awesome fireworks. (which was advertised on the website at that time).

Even with no fireworks, it's still our Nation's Birthday...do SOMETHING for crying out loud!!

i read on another thread that due to the construction of potter field, the fireworks were being cancelled.

other than that, i have no idea on what is planned.

i stay many miles away from all functions on the 4th of july.

too many people for me.
but, that is just me speaking

I could understand the no fireworks with all the construction going on,they probably don't want another fire, this time at the Orlando park.

We are staying at PBH July 4th. Where did you read/hear about PBH having a picnic/beach celebration? I would like to look into it further for our trip. TIA!

I will be at RPR as well, and I was pretty bummed about heaing no fireworks last week, but You can still see Disneys, Universal 360's, and just neighboring areas.

Last year we sat in the RPR club and watched a ton of fireworks:thumbsup2

The Harry Potter construction is causing the fireworks to cease. Still ging to be a great 4th though.

Go to the 360 show in universal very good. Orlandonyc has a pic of the show in this thread

Thanks for the replies. I'm not ranting so much about the lack of fireworks...especially after what happened at Universal in LA. What has me frustrated is they seem to not be doing ANYTHING, just because the fireworks were cancelled. Why did they have to cancel the Citywalk 4th Blowout too?

Disneyhappy, I heard about the PBH celebration from the RPH staff...they had given that as an alternative to the other plans being cancelled. But yesterday when I called the PBH to inquire about it, THEY knew nothing about it. When I called Margaritaville last week, THEY didn't even know the fireworks had been cancelled. There's some major lack of communication going on here.

I appreciate all those people that stay away on the 4th because of the crowds...unfortunately, that was the only time we could get away, and hoping with the FOTL it won't make a big difference ride-wise.

The lines aren't that bad in the mornings, but around 3 the lines get pretty packed. But, with FOTL we just zip right past everyone.

Thank God for FOTL:worship:

Totally agree! We spent the 4th at Unviersal Resort three years ago and found the parks totally manageable, especially with FOTL. CW at night time was a whole other matter. DSis ws in a wheel chair and we could not move anywhere. It was wall to wall people!

CW at night time is the craziest place in the world, or thats what my oldest DS whom is about to turn 28:woohoo:. The 4th will espicially be crazy

We are going the weekend before July 4th(we'll be in disney on the 4th- epcot probably)

Just had to chime in on my excitement of remembering about the FOTL access as I was making breakfast reservations-with Spidey!!(this will be the highlight for my boys) I was worried about timing because of lines and rides and then had the lightbulb moment of "HEY IT DOESN'T Matter! I have fotl access"

I'm sure something will be going on on the 4th they just don't know what yet.

We were at PBH over the 4th last year. The crowds weren't too bad in the parks. I didn't think the firework show was comparable to what you see at MK on the 4th.

I called PBH yesterday and was told they currently don't have anything special planned for the 4th. They may have a brunch at Tratorria like they do for Mother's Day and Father's Day. (?) They may also have a BBQ by the pool with activities for the kids. I asked if they don't already have activities for the kids and the TM said yes but there may be more July 4th themed type of activities. Looks like everyone will be jamming into the Studios to watch the 360 show. Any ideas for a good viewing spot. We will likely have to get there early to stake it out.
