July 4th 2009

We went July 1 to 7 2008. On the 4th we stayed away from MK and went to TL which was completely crazy by 11am. Entire families were staking out one chair and the wave pool was so crowded my kids were getting hurt. So we left, spent the afternoon at the VWL pool and took in the fireworks from the Poly beach, which was a spectacular viewpoint.
On the good side, we didn't feel the rest of the days were annoyingly crowded. Just remember to get into the parks early and use your Fastpasses.

We were at ssr on the 4th. We watched the fireworks at dtd from the hot tub in congress park after enjoying an entertaining bit of fun and games by the pool. It was the best 4th of July our family can remember! No big crowds, no traffic to fight before or afterwards, just relaxing in hot tub watching the beautiful colors explode almost above us. We did notice some "fall-out" during/after the display, but it was preferable to the aggravation of going to the parks. After we were finished , we literaly had less than a 5 minute walk back to our room.:wizard:

This past year my sister and her family went to Disney for the week of the 4th. Keep in mind that gas was $4.00/gal. at the time.

Anyway, they said the parks were manageable for the whole week EXCEPT for July 4th. They spent the morning at Epcot and saw Patriot Mickey and Donald at American Adventure, ate lunch and headed to MK for the fireworks. (They did see them on the 3rd and thought they were so fantastic that they had to see them again.) Anyway, they took the monorail to MK from Epcot and got there about 3pm. They got half way up main street and could go no further. They camped out until the fireworks, and was overall happy. My BIL said that he had never seen so many people in one place at one time, ever. A Disney Cruise Line bus picked them up and took them back to the All Stars. I think that took a while, but they were generally impressed with the sheer # of busses that were involved in moving lots of people. I'm not sure, but I think they would be willing to do it again.

I've heard this humorous description of MK on 4th of July. Take everyone you have ever met and put them in your bath tub. Turn the water on. Everyone in the bathtub can get out 1 at a time to use the toilet for 10 minutes, and then get back in the bathtub. When everyone has done there business, you can then turn off the water, all get out of the bathtub at the same time and leave the bathroom en masse through a standard door.

I myself can't remember music , but DD says she remembers music (although she wasn't sure if it was from DTD or music piped in at SSR. Either way, it was a great time. The girls swam in the pool, while we lounged in hot tub or deck chairs. We even won a eletronic board game by playing what's in your beach bag ? . Disney cast members ran this game for the whole pool area while we were waiting for the fireworks (they would call out an item and first person to WALK up to them with item received a prize.) Red, white and blue beads were given out for free, as well as glowing necklaces for the smaller kiddos. Hot dogs, popcorn, and some drinks (limited alcohol and soda) were on sale from a small cart for a reasonable (by disney standards lol )fee. For us, it was much better than fighting the crowds. Even my DD loved it, and she hates fireworks due to the loud noise ( we could hear the booms from the fireworks, but apparently were just far enough away to appease my skiddish TWENTY-FOUR year old "baby" lol.)

Was the pool area very crowded?

That's what I would never be able to do, let alone my kids. Five hours packed onto Main Street waiting for the fireworks....not worth my sanity. I would consider 'Ohana again this year for the fireworks even though the food was not that good, but my DD's event final at CSR is 4th of July evening :sad2:
