July 30, 2010 Mickey's Adventures England to Espana Cruise

Hi there!

I just stumbled across this thread.

I never contemplated a Disney cruise (though I am a massive WDW fan) but found a great rate on a Cat 12 GTY and thought I'd give it a whirl. My parents, kids, and brother- in law plus family are coming too.

Just wondering how other cruisers, particularly from the North of England (or Scotland) are getting to Dover. The EasyJet flights are booked back from Barcelona, so that isn't a problem. So far, I'm thinking car rental with one-way drop offs might be the best bet.

Any ideas?

We're getting the train down to Dover from Leeds. Its a similar journey from Manchester to Dover. 2 changes ie Euston ad then the undeground to the station for Dover. Approximately 4 hours. Apart from the underground the journey looks pretty good. I think DH would prefer the train to driving, especially in a hire car that he is not familiar with. At least you can sit back and relax on a train and you holiday had already started. No map reading or following sat nav instructions or sitting in traffic or worse plodding through those 50 mile hour road works with average speed camera on them!

We are doing a one way rental from Stoke.
If you go for a one way rental double check for small print on extra one way charges that do not appear on your invoice but are payable when you pick the car up -aparently Easy Car are big "offenders" of this.
Preferably go for a one-way UK rental specialist that guarentees no extra charges - do a Google to find them.

We are using one such company called 5th Gear - hope this helps.

Thank you for such excellent advice. I will definitely weigh up the pros / cons and cost of the train versus the hire car. I think Virgin trains release cheap London fares three months beforehand, so I might leave it until then.

I hadn't thought about the one-way drop off hire car charge. Thanks for that.

Anyway, if anyone would like to add our details to the list we are:

Karen - me
Steve - hubby
Mary - Mum-
Bill - Dad
Matt -18
Kat - 7

We have never taken a holiday with the parents as there is no way they'd fly out to WDW, so it's nice that they are coming with us. This year we are celebrating both mine and Steve's 40th and Matt's 18th (plus his last holiday with us before uni) so we hope to have a wonderful time.

Just a heads up - anyone looking to swap to a secret porthole room 5024 is now showing up as available on our cruise. We got a great category 12 rate so no way I am switching back to a normal rate to get the SPH room but for anyone who is not cat 12 GTY and wants it then it is available at the moment.

I am so happy it is Friday and Monday is a holidayy:cool1:

I so need a break, Jan-Feb are always the busiest time for me, but for added excitement I was in a car accident and broke mt wrist, and it is really slowing me down.

I guess there will be no swimming at CAstaway Cay for me next month:eek:

Fingers crossed that my luck improves.

Ouch, I hope your wrist recovers quickly and that you stil manage to enjoy yourself on Castaway Cay despite no swimming (I have to say that Castaway Cay with no swimming is way better than home with no DCL!)

Hope your luck improves soon :)

I'll post here since I'm rookie enough not to have 10 posts and unable to send PMs...

Disname: Nightmarestang - Leon (29...contrary to what Caven 553 thinks, I will not be that many decades old yet!)
DW: Laura (25)
We live in Lincoln, NE and will be traveling with her parents, sister, brother-in-law, and niece. This will be Laura's and my 5th/6th Disney cruises. Laura graduates in May (yay!). We both work for Information Analytics. She works in billing and soon to be in the main office and I work as a Website Designer and Programmer. Also, if anyone is looking for a weight lifting partner for the cruise, let me know (I lift daily and do semi-pro football).

You can download episodes of Samantha Brown's Travel Channel show on iTunes for $1.99. There are episodes for Lisbon, London, Barcelona, Seville and Normandy.

I haven't looked through the other series yet ... but there may be more videos out there!
